Hello!
I found this tutorial very interesting and since I've never tried to use the pen tool and vectors I thought it could be useful for learning!
Unfortunately I see that I have a different photoshop version than yours!
I have Photoshop cs6 and the settings for the pen tool are completely different!
I hope not to bother you, but can you help me with that, if you know how things work in cs6?

I have a question about the pen tool method. When you say, ''Next, scale up your drawing to at least twice it's final size'' do you mean the resolution or the image size(Height+width)? So 300 to 600 res or say 2000 height to 4000?

It can be either, but I do a little bit of both depending on what I'm doing. For the pen tool, though, I scan it at 300, but I double the height. (i.e., 6" to 12")Usually, though, I prefer image size over resolution. When I save it as a .jpg, I decrease both height and resolution. Does that help?

my Photoshop version is CS6 i don't have the same Pen tool setting as you have, i'm a bit confused what do i do?

Uhm, no matter how big my brush is, when I try to stroke the path with brush, it's just 1 pixel wide ;_: What am I doing wrong?

Hmmm...without looking at your screen, it's really hard to tell. You may have the pencil tool accidentally selected. (If you're stroking the path by right-clicking on the work path and the stroke window pops up, make sure the dropdown menu is set to brush.) Or maybe you need to choose a differnt brush?
If you still have problems, message me a few screenshots of you using the tool and I can see what I can do.

Did you ever hear of a program called Art Rage?....You can get a free trial on steam and its pretty good for stuff like this...It has a feature that lets you automatically smooth out lines...and it has a taper feature that lets you do the kind of thin at the start and wider as you go effect....You should give it a try...Also this is an awesome tutorial Its teaching me a lot of things i didn't know so thanks

GREAT tutorial! Man I haven't used the pen tool since art school. I think I'm just lazy and draw the lines by hand. I outta give this a try!

Weirdly enough, I'm the opposite. Doing the lines by hand takes me much longer than with the pen tool.

you're so lucky you're faster with pen tool D: it looks so crisp and neat compared to hand~
using pen tool for me takes way longer and lines come out weird >.<

I'm always grateful for more information on how other artists do things with Photoshop. I was not aware that there was a vector option in that program! Long have I wondered about vector, specifically because of the ability to increase/decrease the size of line art without degeneration. I'd love to know more about it!
