Melody picked up the plastic potty, dragging it away from the wall and looked at it nervously. She needed to go, but the chair seemed so strange. With slow movements, the girl sat down, slipping her tails through the hole in the back to keep them out of the way. The potty was kind of comfortable to sit in. The urge to go was building, and Melody took a deep breath. This was going to be her first time, and she wanted to make her father so proud.

Merrick glanced about. The house had been so quiet, and he began to worry.
"Melody?"
He checked the living room, the bedrooms, and even the play room. All the places he expected Melody to be. Finally Merrick looked in the bathroom and smiled. There, sitting in her potty, was the youngster. She looked up, the biggest smile on her face.
"Look at me! Look at me!" she said. "I'm a big girl now!"
Merrick chuckled and nodded.
"Yes you are," he replied. "I'm so proud of you, Melody.
Merrick fetched a roll of tissue and placed it next to her.
"When you've finished, call out, and I'll give you a hand to clean up."
Melody nodded quickly. To see the happy look on Merrick's face made her heart swell at having done such a grown-up thing. Melody clapped her hands together. The potty had made her nervous at first, but now, she was confident. It was no longer a scary thing...
