If only I could animate the scene... Ah well. Just have to let the imagination fill in the details!

Good effort, looks really good! Not quite photo-realistic, but I approve! I played c&c back in the day, and so appreciate the context

It's the idea that, "I can do better," which keeps me in trying to improve my artwork. While I may not have the rendering capabilities of Pixar, (if I aim, why not aim high?) I can still try to improve my abilities and churn out images like this.

Yeah That's what I'm talking about! The anticipation to the confrontation... Nice tension, you can almost feel the chaos that is about to be unleashed
I love it. The only thing that bug me (but just a little bit.. so it's really just nit picking) is the focus effect. It just feel a bit strange. The only objects that are out of focus is the tree with the tiberium field, and the lead Orca. The two objects closer the the viewer is in focus and everything further away is in perfect focus, a dead give away that this was 3d. I understand that this was probably some motion blur effect, but it points out one the biggest traps as a digital artist... consistency. The trick is to either keep everything in focus, which is also actually a cheat but one can get away with it in 3D (most of the time), or do the more realistic thing and focus in on your main focal point (for example in this case the hand of Nod could have made a very good focal point). The natural tendency for an artist (talking about myself as well) is to show off all the nice fine detail on our models that we worked so hard on, but I think you would agree that the lead Orca actually gained a bit more movement by the slight blur, without loosing too much information on the details. But as I said, that is really just some nit picking from my side. I still like it a lot

Those are a few things I tried to find a balance when I did this composition. I wanted the Hand of NOD to be the focal point, so that's how I set my depth of field. That took a number of tries to get it right. When it was rendered out, that was the only thing that was clear. I added the jetwash and exhaust effects in Photoshop afterwards, but the majority of the image was done in VUE.
I think a lot of information was lost when I saved the final image to JPEG format. The compression seems to have added artifacts and distorted the image. Especially on the lead Orca - there are trees in front of it which may be the culprit. I'm not exactly sure on that though. The other two birds are blurred but you're correct as it isn't like the rest. I think it was a conflict or combination of both the DOF and the Motion Blur and JPEG compression. I think to get better results would be to render everything in layers and manipulate the effects in Photoshop myself.
Even after 12 years, this is still a learning experience for me.

Wow. That hand of nod is going to smart in a minute!
I like the tiberium field, very nice touch. This is bringing back all sorts of memories of the first C&C ^_^ awesome work!

Being the artist, naturally I'm not satisfied with it. :grins:

That's actually a good trait for artists. It's what keeps us striving for improvement.

Thanks! Although I was going for more photo realistic look. Ah well.
