Description
I recently revived my old Avatar continuation concept, so I decided to redesign the first two main characters and use this as an opportunity to do a little worldbuilding based around the Western Hemisphere

As a quick recap there are four Nations in the Western Hemisphere that have never interacted with the canon ones (since Avatar Uan never went there), all with their respective bending: Light, Lighting, Sound and Spirit.

I partially explained how electric bending works, but I feel like I wasn’t specific enough: As you would expect Lighting bending works similarly for both Fire benders and Lighting benders, the different being that lighting benders can’t control fire and flow electricity through their body with much more force and ease. Unfortunately their movement in battle is extremely limited as they need to be still while channeling such powerful energy, making them the literal definition of a glass cannon. In order to gain movement in combat, the Lighting Nation has forged Copper armors with very pointy features in order to preserve the electricity that they have acquired.
These armors aren’t particularly protective, but they are really light and perfect for a classic hand to hand bending battle.
The electricity from which derives their power however isn’t only produce by a lightning, but by their movement.
For this reason, before every battle, lightning benders do some sort of war dance to accumulate energy.
They also tend to modify their style of combat using various weapons to channel electricity, like lances, swords, maces, daggers….ex. , which are made out of a highly resistant league of steel, copper and magnetite.
Sir Rudolf uses a short sword, which he uses to create electric circles that fires towards whatever is in front of him if he slashes the air while his weapon is conducting electricity.

Since Rudolf is technically a member of the Light nation’s army, they have made a custom copper armor decorated with the royal effigy of the sun.
On the belt that he wears on his chest there is a special medallion that detect a benders that are around the wielder
Since it changes color with each element, if the Avatar is nearby, it will start glow with all the colors, or at least that’s what the researchers of the Spirit nation hope it would happened since everything they know about the Avatar is from brief records of the previous expeditions in the Eastern Hemisphere that unfortunately have all mysteriously disappeared.

Talking about the spirit nation, they are the big brains of the Western Hemisphere, and the keepers of the only portal to the spirit realm in the hemisphere.
Spirit/Soul bending relies on knowledge, and meditation, being directly linked to the spirit world and not the material plain.
This means that any non-bender can become a spirit bender, but they will only learn this art after years of intense training and studying in both the spirit world and the material world, generally wasting away their youth.
This knowledge however comes with a few benefits, like extended lifetime and the possibility to use these notions to create various innovative inventions, such as the flying machines and powerful energy sources like the crystal based generator, which also powers Sir Gillard’s core.
But where does all this power and knowledge come from?
The Spirit/Soul benders, during their hard and demanding training, slowly grow closer to that thin line that divide the spirit world and the material plain, which in return gives them power similar to the one of the spirits.

Being this close to the spirit realm for much longer than the Eastern Hemisphere, has unfortunately had more negative consequences than positive. In fact colonization is made difficult due to the presence of hostile creatures that are usually described as “Horrors”.
These beings aren’t spirits, but they aren’t from this world either, as suggested by their impossible anatomy, some of them have the mind of a rabid beast like “Stalkers”, others are uncomfortably similar to humans like “Camouflagers”, and others cannot be fully understand and they are usually found in ancient ruins of unknown origins like the “ Undertakers”.
One thing is for sure though, these beings are somehow connected to the mysterious entity known as “The Beholder”.

The Light Nation, made it their mission to purge the world of these foul beings, seeing themselves as the champions of humanity. In truth most light benders are arrogant entitled pricks who comes from extremely wealthy family and see everyone different from them as inferior.
For this reason there is a huge divide between rich and poor in the Light Nation, with the poor usually are non-benders or immigrants.
Sometimes however one can get rich by working with the other nations, much like Sir Rudolf adoptive father and the nobility doesn’t take kindly to this type of behavior.
This is why seeing the royal heir being defeated by a lightning bender was such an humiliation for the crown, and so the king has secretly being in contact with some mercenaries ever since Rudolf and Gillard expedition began, hoping to use the Avatar to prove the superiority of Light bending.
Speaking of light bending; it consists of solidifying the light that comes in contact with the bender’s body or to use the light reflecting from a reflective surface to create a powerful laser beam.

The Sound Nation is in a completely different condition, having an almost non existent poverty line, and thriving with culture and art.
But despite being extremely open an pacific people they have a profound disdain towards those effected by blindness or deafness, for they can’t fully appreciate the great beauty of art.
So whenever a blind or deaf child is born the parents and the infant are both forcefully exiled, and considering the “Horrors” that lurks out of towns and cities, it’s not exactly ideal to travel in the Western Hemisphere.
