Another NPC that the player would encounter in my idea for an hypothetical Elden Ring DLC ( www.deviantart.com/logbot03/ar… )

Agilulfus is a character inspired by the book: “ The Inexistent Knight” by Italo Calvino, and the tragic concept of a knight that doesn’t exist and keeps himself together by pure strength of will fits perfectly in a Fromsoftware game, so without further ado, here’s a few lines of dialogue I came up with.

First encounter: on the boat

“Mm? Who goes there? Ah a Tarnished, never seen one of your ilk before, although I am quite surprised by your appearance.”
“Oh don’t get me wrong good sir, I was just expecting something more “ divine” after hearing the great feats of your people”
“Right! I should first introduce myself: I am Sir Agilulfus of Guildiverne, Paladin of the great Emperor of the Nord Lands, but most know me as “The Phalanx Breaker”, I’m sure the name have come to your ears once in a while”
“What am I doing here you ask? Well I can really say it out loud, but it’s something particularly personal to me”
“I’m sorry, but I can’t say no more right now, I believe I’ve told you enough. May our roads cross again Tarnished”

Agilulfus quest continues in the Black flame temple:

“ Ah Tarnished, glad meeting you here, I presume you too saw what these animals have done to this place. Dear Gods, What horrors must have these poor souls suffered, skinned alive and tortured for who knows how long”
“Listen, I know this may sounds selfish and out of place, but I need some help, you see I am in need of a certain object that is, well, surprisingly hard to find: a Godskin core.”
“If the rumor is true this is what lets them absorb skin to, well, gain a more suitable form for their purpose”
“I know, I know I shouldn’t think of stuff like this when the leader of these monsters is still on the loose, but I desperately need that item, so if you find one, meet me in the dining hall, you can’t miss it”

If the player helps Agilulfus he’ll be the second summonable NPC in the fight against Abiura ( summoning him isn’t necessary to complete his quest)

Later on the boat ( below the deck)

“Ah! T…Tarnished! You gave me quite the spook you know, did…did anybody followed you here? No, good, well since you proved to be a trustworthy fellow I believe I can reveal to you the real purpose of my journey”

Agilulfus takes of his helm, showing an empty inside.

“ So this is my secret I….. I don’t exist. I never even noticed until I took off my helm for my great ceremony, a traditional rite of military promotion in the Nord Lands”
“Everyone was shocked, I was shocked, and for the first time in my life…. I ran”
“I ran away as fast as I could, people cheered for me in the streets, but I didn’t listen to them, I just wanted to get away from the city, from everyone.”
“Suddenly I realized I had no memory of my life before I was in the military, before I ended my training, all I remembered was the chaos of the battlefield, the fallen comrades lying on the grounds…. I never felt so scared and alone before”
“Now you understand, I’m here because I want to be… something I… want to live, to breath, to love, is it too much to ask?”
“Forgive me Tarnished, but… I … I need some time alone, please don’t tell anyone about this, thank you”

After obtaining various items for Agilulfus, his quest ends in the final island: The Grail, where the player finds his armor, lying there abandoned, covering an unborn fetus.

If the player will at any point not follow Agilulfus quest, they’ll find his empty armor on the boat.
