Description
Another character from that very old concept that I posted a while back.To be honest, most of the time I have no idea how to draw these characters, and for this one it was the same thing, mostly because I don’t really know how to properly draw the various set pieces in an interesting way.
So in the end I opted for a simpler option that could still show something about the character that I’m talking about, and to be honest, I really like how it turned out in the end.
This is another one of Dinamo’s foes that will show up in the “first arc” and become a persistent threat much like the Huntsman.
This character has changed a lot throughout the years, starting as just some mafia enforcer using poisonous gas, to another unhinged psycho with a particularly dangerous set of skills.
In the story, Canvas appears as one of the later villains that Dinamo will face off against, and probably the most mysterious ones as nothing is really known about him, not to mention the fact that he always manages to get away in one way or another.
In his first appearance Canvas will casually enter an apparently random middle school, taking everyone inside hostage.
He would proceed to present himself as Diego Marchica, and explain to the hostages that he’s there to, “create one of his perfect masterpieces”.
This name was inspired by his original role as a mafia enforcer, taking the name of a lowly mafia crook in the book: “The day of the owl” by Leonardo Sciascia.
The characters don’t really have much in common, but I really liked the name and I still wanted him to have a Sicilian accent ( not because of any particular reason, I just thought it would be interesting to include character from all parts of Italy).
Anyway, since the school in question is also where Luca’s sister studies, he immediately run into action.
Dinamo soon discovers what Canvas means by “creating a masterpiece” stumbling upon his improvised study in the art classroom, where he finds the body of the janitor that Diego has chosen to be his “model” after clearly stalking them for days.
Naturally Canvas didn’t had enough and prepares for “his greatest work yet”, fortunately Dinamo manages to isolate him into the main courtyard.
Naturally all villains must pose a significant threat to the hero and challenge them in unique ways, and Canvas is no exception.
Much like Dinamo, Diego isn’t a particularly athletic person, but he a particularly dangerous arsenal at his disposal, consisting on a handmade chainsaw like knife and a colorful poisonous gas.
The gas is so toxic that it can kill someone in just by entering in contact with an open wound, even a paper cut will do.
This means that Dinamo cannot afford to get hit once, as unlike his opponent, under his hoodie he doesn’t have any sort of protection, the gas is also dense enough to not allow any sort of visibility.
This means that Luca would have to deal with an unpredictable opponent in a space with very limited visibility.
Canvas however will prove himself to be a capable escape artist after Dinamo manages to bring him to the police, and any researches on his presumably real name will lead to nothing, making him a torn in Dinamo’s side for a long time.
