Description
So here’s the design of the final boss of my reimagining of the fourth circle of hell ( www.deviantart.com/logbot03/ar… )King Midas can also be fought a second time, but for now I will settle the design for his non-optional boss battle.
Midas is a caster type boss, so he will generally attack from afar, but he can also make a few melee attack with his scepter.
Midas can inflict a particular type of status effect that immediately kill the player when the status effect bar is full.
This status effect is exclusive to Midas only ( in both fights) which is his iconic gold touch.
His spells can also give the Gold touch status effect and they are usually an alternate version of already existing spells, except for one where he summons a giant coin that rushes towards the player at high speed.
If the player dies against him their body can be found in the arena petrified in gold, and in order to gain back those precious souls they’ll have to break the gold first, or they can use it to block a few of Midas attacks before it breaks.
Once defeated in the first fight inside the throne room, he drops:
1) Echoes of the fool: Echoes of a powerful being that resonates across the underworld, these ones spell the name “Midas”
Perhaps an arcane craftsman can do something with them
2) Card of the fool: an odd card representing a crying man with donkey ears.
In ancient times, these cards were used to gain vision of the future and the past, unfortunately a full deck is required to do so.
Midas Echoes can be used to obtain:
1) Mammon’s gold rush: You summon a giant coin that rushes forward and explode on impact
One of the spell created by Mammon the cat before he was betrayed by king Midas.
2) Mammon’s claw: a Spear like Scepter that was once Mammon’s weapon of choice before the higher consciousness banished him for his betrayal and turned him into a cat.
Special move: Cat’s claw: you launch yourself forward and make a devastating uppercut that can surpass most defenses.
After defeating king Midas in the second battle, the player will obtain the foolish king’s set which empowers spells by a lot but make them spend more mana.
