As I said in this entry www.deviantart.com/logbot03/ar… , the book “True Story” is one of the first book in the history of literature that have unique creatures that aren’t related to any myth. Previously I covered the inhabitants of Sugheria, now I’m going to make an attempt in recreating the inhabitants of Lucernaria. In the book, Luciano and his crew dock at Lucernaria after taking part in the war between the sun and the moon ( yes that actually happens in the book) which means that unlike Sugheria, Lucernaria is an island that floats in the sky. The island is populated with living lanterns that correspond to their inanimate counterparts on earth. Every night they reunite in the city hall, where their grand commander calls their given name if they aren’t present, they are condemned as traitors and executed( which means that their flame is extincted). If caught skipping the reunion they have the chance to defend themselves in a trial. During one of said trials Luciano meet the living counterpart of his lantern at home, and discovered that every lantern is omniscient about everything that happens in their household. The richest lanterns have the biggest flames, while the poor have smaller flames. Despite the fact that the “Lucernarians” were quite friendly, the protagonists felt a constant sense of dread while around them. Since the flame is the most important part of this monster, I thought to make it the living part of the construct, closed up in the main body. Since Luciano mention the fact that they can in fact “run”, I gave them legs made out of chains with bricks as feet. It’s never mentioned if they have arms so I assumed that they might have some sort of telekinetic powers, which could make sense with their omniscience. Maybe they could be called Lanternsonas.
