Any way to only receive sound notifications on certain messages?
I.E. only play sounds on notes and/or comments and/or favourites?

Will be available in the next major version. Apply to join #dANotifier to become part of the beta tester team to get that already.

Is there something similar for Opera? I have been using Chrome and i had this addon. It is really great, but now i am using Opera, so I would be really hapy if there was something like that!

Sadly, I do not know. The idea came from a Firefox addon, so I'm sure that exists, but I don't know about opera as personally I don't like that browser.

Has anyone suggested tying a function key to the extension? As far as I know, there's no use for most of the function keys in Chrome.

No, no-one has, but I'm afraid this is impossible with Chrome's extension infrastructure. No "nice" way, at least.

Ah. Bit of a shame, but I guess there's not much to be done about it.

logeg In reply to Novur [2011-02-05 10:35:34 +0000 UTC]
Yes. "Global" keyboard shortcuts are hard-coded into Chrome, and while I can inject javascript to capture a certain key combination into EVERY page, it won't be 100% reliable.
π: 0 β©: 1
logeg In reply to Novur [2011-02-05 10:50:51 +0000 UTC]
Exactly. As a result, useful only on pages where programmatic injection is allowed by Chrome, and works only if the current page is fully loaded.

So if the focus is on, say, YouTube's video player, the shortcut won't work. Damn.

Not sure about that, but probable. Not gonna try myself, if you'll excuse me..

Hi! Great job - very useful tool for Chrome.
Do you accept proposals and ideas?

And, sorry for the delay - I was on holidays with limited internet connection.

logeg In reply to yankoa [2011-01-10 09:20:32 +0000 UTC]
Yes, I welcome them!
Either here or on #dANotifier . Also check the group out for what's planned for the next version, perhaps it's in there already?
If you have a proposal with a mock-up - even better, submit to the corresponding gallery in the group.

yankoa In reply to logeg [2011-01-11 20:30:50 +0000 UTC]
No problem. Thanks for attention. I just submit my Mock-up. The idea is simple - more separated views with icons. It's more convenient and quick way to check your dA messages - [link]
I hope that can happen.

logeg In reply to yankoa [2011-01-11 21:03:50 +0000 UTC]
Added to gallery, commented. Thanks for the idea!
If you do HTML/CSS, it would be great if you could make a mock-up design for HTML notifications. See [link] - something like this, but in concrete CSS.
If you're interested, I can send you a simple extension to test such notifications.

1) Selective watch/alerts per message type
2) Feed watching for group admins
3) Desktop notifications! See [link] , it's finally possible with Chrome 6.
4) Ability to use own alert sound
5) Alternative views: see [link]
..things like that

3) Good call! That would be very cool indeed!
4) Also a good idea!
5) Again, a good idea (not as cool as the others I think, but still worth pursuing)
I noticed the update that turns it green when I have new messages and what-not. Very cool. I'm a big fan of that.
And one day I was sitting there listening to music, and this little sound goes off. I was like, 'I've never heard that before? What the heck was that?'
Turns out it was another fun little feature of yours.
Keep up the good work!

As a matter of fact, that little sound.. You know, I searched all over the internet for a good and free-to-use notification sound and miserably failed at that. Didn't like any of the free ones. So finally I gave up, got myself LMMS, threw in two notes that didn't sound particularly annoying and so this little sample is purely my own creation
