No need to be that drastic!
It seems that somehow deviantART reports more folders than there are on the message center page.
Give me a couple of minutes to fix it.

I FREAKING love YOU. Although you might change it so it can only notify certain things (feedback, notifications, news, etc).

As noted in the release announcement on #dANotifier , it's a top priority feature.
I can make it in a "quick and dirty" fashion quite soon, but I want to rework the whole preferences system first for it to be a bit more neat.

I Suggest having an option to specify what messages to count and warn about. For example, I have messages count of 8973. Almost all of them are new deviations. But that doesn't interest me. I am only interested in notes and feedback.

Sorry to announce that this didn't make it in the release. It is a top priority feature for the next one, though.

I don't plan to include it in the next release, but what the hell, might as well add that.
Hope to release it in, say, this month.

Hmm... a good idea, but it seems that it wont update itself to let me know I have new massages, even when I do. Is this a bug?
π: 0 β©: 1
logeg In reply to DavidsonVROOM [2010-07-06 21:40:09 +0000 UTC]
Depends.
If it gives you 0 when it shouldn't you may have the message menu splintered, see this
Meanwhile, I recommend you to watch/join #dANotifier , I'm gonna post there a public beta version of 0.5 very shortly. Be sure to try it, with it you can keep your messages splintered.

At the moment I don't think I can stay sane without the splintered menu, but I'll keep my eyes peeled for the next version. Even right now, its handy to have a little button sitting at the corner of Chrome that'll take me to my message center, so I'll keep it installed, even if it won't count my messages because I prefer to use the splintered view. xD
Good work!

I can put you on the testers list for the next beta candidate if you want. 0.5 couldn't care less if it's splintered, unsplintered, v7, v6, v8, whatever.

It wont work for me. It keeps showing "0" messages at all times. Ah well, still an awesome idea.

Should you still be interested, there's a new version out that should work and has a little more features.

No idea; don't ask me to port it to IE/other browsers, it's Chrome-specific (at least for the foreseeable future).

This is great!!! Now all we need is an ad blocker for DA.
π: 0 β©: 2
ereyes In reply to XxDe-JixX [2010-06-30 00:29:13 +0000 UTC]
I'm assuming you mean an adblocker for Chrome? It's called AdThwart. I use it myself (dA's not the only website I visit). It works.
π: 0 β©: 1
XxDe-JixX In reply to ereyes [2010-06-30 04:49:09 +0000 UTC]
Not for Chrome, for this site. DeviantArt. XD
π: 0 β©: 1
ereyes In reply to XxDe-JixX [2010-06-30 21:47:08 +0000 UTC]
...AdThwart is for people who use the browser Chrome. It blocks all ads, including the ones on this site.
π: 0 β©: 1
XxDe-JixX In reply to ereyes [2010-06-30 22:09:10 +0000 UTC]
Oh, I didn't know it would block the ones on here.
π: 0 β©: 0
logeg In reply to XxDe-JixX [2010-06-29 21:36:37 +0000 UTC]
It's called "subscription"
π: 0 β©: 1
XxDe-JixX In reply to logeg [2010-06-29 21:41:11 +0000 UTC]
I know, I have one. XD I just meant for everybody who can't get subscriptions.
π: 0 β©: 1
logeg In reply to XxDe-JixX [2010-06-29 21:43:33 +0000 UTC]
That would be unethical to dA, which takes measures to prevent ad-blocking. Layout breaks if you use it.
I'm sure it would violate ToS or something.
π: 0 β©: 3
ereyes In reply to logeg [2010-06-30 00:27:42 +0000 UTC]
Nope. I used Adblock back when I was unsubscribed and it didn't break the layout and it doesn't break ToS, either. LOTS of members use Adblock or some variant of it on this website.
π: 0 β©: 1
logeg In reply to ereyes [2010-06-30 04:04:12 +0000 UTC]
For me it does. It's subtle, but it's there: if you open a second page in any gallery, there ought to be an ad in the right top corner of the main block. Adblock happily kills it, the gallery reflows to fill the gap, but that area becomes unclickable. Devious, huh?
π: 0 β©: 1
lostaris In reply to logeg [2010-06-29 22:06:43 +0000 UTC]
They dont break layout. Its not really something they can put in a tos.
π: 0 β©: 1
logeg In reply to lostaris [2010-06-30 04:08:14 +0000 UTC]
Well, maybe they can't put it in the ToS.. But see my comment above for breaking the layout. Maybe I just have a bad ruleset for adblock.
