Cel-rendering looks great on this! Nice design and I like those light colors of pink and yellow.

Still kinda looks goody-goody can't go wrong with darker colours with the bader ones

I was hoping her "pet" skulls would offset that. the colors are to deceive you.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

You *are* going to be doing a tutorial for this, right? RIGHT???
Seriously this has to be some of the best celshading I've seen. You said you're using PovRay to render? Any more details I can read about somewhere? (I'm upgrading my computer next week so I'd like to try some new tricks with it )

If I can get certain things figured out, then yes.

cool. are you having to do a lot of postwork after the cel render or is it doing that well just from the render engine?
it's a fantastic effect.

The only postwork was removing some ugly black regions in the back and resizing the image.
Hoping to get to the point I can do animations.

that would be amazing. must be long render times to deal with figuring out the proper outlines.

Sadly, the color render very, very fast, but the lines.....

i suspected as much. must be a hard process to do the lines...

Smaller resolutions are fast, but the quality is not as good.

Cool! Looks good. I love the outfit too. Can you vary the amount for color shades for more or less detail?

Sitting at my laptop, so I can't get to the files. The short answer is yes, but I'm still trying to figure out how to fully control it. You can play games with setting phong_size to 0 and metalic to 1 or greater. The scene should have only 1 light source. Adding more light sources increases the number of levels of shading.

Thanks. That's a great thing about POV-Ray, there always seems to be something new to check out.

Cool! That's the kind of outline I could never get with Poser. ^^
What figure and outfit is that?

It is a A3/V2 hybrid. The outfit is DKVicky for V2. I think it is from RDNA. It is an old, old, suit though.

very nice, i love how the cel rendering is coming around for you. If you dont mind my asking, what program do you use?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Lokai2000 In reply to Hather [2006-09-08 14:28:04 +0000 UTC]
More like programs...
I'm using Poser to do the scene creation. I use Poseray to convert the scene file to Povray format. I use Povray with the Megapov extensions for the rendering. Megapov is required to due the outlines, although you can do the cartoon shading in regular povray....

At least I got the shadow correct this time!
Still working out some issues. Rendering ground shadows is causing me problems right now. The line shader wants to put huge, thick, black regions on the horizon if I add a ground plane for shoadows.

ken1171 In reply to Lokai2000 [2006-09-08 21:34:20 +0000 UTC]
For that sometimes I wish I had Poser 6, for it can raytrace the ground shadows separately and allow me to compose it with the main render in postwork.

Hellwolve In reply to Lokai2000 [2006-09-08 13:13:19 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, I noticed that, too
'S logical really, IMO. It's an object, so it'll be outlined...You'll either have to make the ground plane so huge the edge isn't visible or postwork it Best is, ofcourse, to do inside the renderer...Can't you decide which object gets rendered in what way?

Lokai2000 In reply to Hellwolve [2006-09-08 14:29:34 +0000 UTC]
Imagine the above with those backgorund lines filled in *shiver*. That's the problem right now.
I tried the huge plane and it made the problem worse. I'm hoping it is a mtter of just finding the correct settings.

Hellwolve In reply to Lokai2000 [2006-09-08 17:19:06 +0000 UTC]
*imagens and shivers as well* Yeah...that's bad I hope you'll be able to fix it
Even as big that the edges are outside the screen? (if you know what I mean) Even so, that's odd...'S not working the way I'd expect it to respond, then...

Imagine my surprise! To bad I can't control what objects the lines get applied to.

ken1171 In reply to Lokai2000 [2006-09-08 21:37:40 +0000 UTC]
Why not render the ground shadow in Poser itself, by turning on raytracing in Firefly and using the default Poser ground to project it. I usually create one render just for the ground shadows, which I later on postwork into the final render.

Lokai2000 In reply to ken1171 [2006-09-10 00:56:28 +0000 UTC]
Mixing renders in Poser and Povray won't work since the cameras don't line up exactly the same.
I have thought about doing something similar in Povray, but the real goal is get to something I can animate.

ken1171 In reply to Lokai2000 [2006-09-10 21:13:37 +0000 UTC]
Same thing here, and that's why my animations are still done in Poser, because there I can switch raytracing on and produce nice sharp shadows for animations without postwork. This works well for both normal and toon modes. For realistic looks, it has to be done in Vue, but then Poser integration becomes a burden - most of which are already fixed on Vue6, whenever it will come out. ^^
