Description Hmmm. There doesn't appear to be a general animation area. I guess I will put this here until someone can point me to a better place.

Unlike the Bubba Kick piece I did, this animation is not created from a BVH file. So, it is not quite as smooth.

Well, I finally got around to trying to do a simple animation using the cel rendering techniques I have been working on in Megapov. The Xvid codec will be needed to view this file. I haven't been a big fan of DivX since it went commercial and I don't have a quicktime encoder.

Please don't focus so much on the animation itself. I was trying out a lot of new scripts and such. Plus... I could write a whole rant over how much I hate poser's inverse kinematics....

The real goal of this project was to see how the tricks I have been using in Megapov look animated.

Well, I know the focus is animation but I will offer one art crit and that the feet look a bit too tiny.

Other than that, I need to look into codecs.

I'm on Windows Vista so I'm hesitant to play with codecs for another month or so... I want to give Microsoft enough time to fix their cr@p U_U;;

So everyone seems to have touched on everything except the blur effect.

Animation Master allows a multi-pass render that makes things like motion blur and depth of field more realistic looking. I have no clue if the same is for Poser.

If not, there is a motion blur program out there that takes the rendered scene, and basically fudges the areas that get less and less similar to the frame previous to it.

Heck, you yourself could probably program somthing like that.

And while the purpose of this was the cell shading, an extra trick in your bag for the next test doesn't hurt.

thats awsome animation. i kept on watching it ova n ova. Is it done by hand?

Lokai2000 In reply to omigoshi [2007-03-21 15:38:46 +0000 UTC]

It is computer generated, but the ultimate goal is to try and make it look as close to being done by hand as possible.

I was going to say, she's pretty jiggly... like spooky said: an underwire

Still, I liked it, including the blur effect as it looked pretty cool, though I understand why you'd not want it soooo dramatic.

Something I might suggest is that your starting pose frame be the same as your end frame or very similar. When I viewed the animation more than once, the contrast between the end pose and the start with the hands up and shrug before going into the fighting pose was a bit jolting for me. It would be a bit more work, but I think it would give a smoother impression.

Lol! I knew this was going to happen. The real focus was not supposed to be the actual animation, but the cel-shading technique.

I don't have any issues with the comments about the animation. There are a lot of problems with the animation and I knew people would be more than happy to point them out.

Yeah, sorry.

To me your cell shading looks great! Not much more I can say about that. You do an incredibly amazing job with it as far as I can see. I'd love to be able to all the stuff you do... but right now my focus is on web design and my schooling.

No need to apologize.
Like I said, I figured it was going to be a problem. Guess I just needed to talk about it someone.

Lokai2000 In reply to Hather [2007-03-21 15:31:53 +0000 UTC]

It is actually lots of little things, but there are four things I noticed.

1) Some of the transitions do a hard direction change where there should be some response delay.
2) The figure exceeds human limits in some cases.
3) Poser's inverse kinematics cause body parts to "snap" to incorrect locations during some frames. The effect is small, but it is there.
4) Her right foot moves at the end when it should be stationary.

Hather In reply to Lokai2000 [2007-03-21 15:38:09 +0000 UTC]

Thats the sad thing about Poser and its animation features, its an incomplete technology in my opinion. Its not the most designer friendly animation out there. Im sure the high end CG software would be much better. In your case, CG would be amazing cause you do a great job with your custom coding so I would love to see CG cut scenes from you.

Hehe, cool! I was wondering if you used cloth simulation here or are those keyframed morphs?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Lokai2000 In reply to ken1171 [2007-03-21 15:28:06 +0000 UTC]

They are morphs... kind of. There is a python script out at renderosity called jiggles. It analyzes motion in the scene and you can apply the analysis results to morph targets. I ended up modifying the script. As the name implies the original script had severe problems with sensitivity to motion "glitches". The response was to create erratic responses and things tended to "jiggle" even when they were stationary. I added some filtering to the script and responses got a lot smoother.

I really wish I understood python better. What I really with is that I could find a reference for the bloody poser reference types and functions that python can use.

If I remember this right, you can find a Poser python scripts reference guide on the documentation folder that ships with Poser. By the way, I didn't know that AnimeDoll had any breast morphs ... ^^

Waaaaay too bouncy. I was half expecting her to injure herself. Other than that, it was a good animation. Some of the timings seemed erratic, but the overall motions seemed solid.

ChoAskIng [2007-03-21 03:17:28 +0000 UTC]

Two things. one joking and one serious.
First. Boucey boucey boucey.
Two. I like how the image isn't "solid" and it has those. "warp shadows" for the star trek fans out there. lol I can't think of what its actually called. But basically the afterimage of her.

Lokai2000 In reply to ChoAskIng [2007-03-21 03:29:41 +0000 UTC]

The warping effect is called motion blur. Unfortunately (or fortunately) the filter I used didn't have any controls. I wanted the effect a lot weaker, but it was interesting anyway.

You need the xvid codec. You can try the one at [link] .
That may not solve your problem though. I think Microsoft is waging war on things they feel threatened by. The video will not play in windows media player on one of my machines, but zoom player or VLC plays it just fine... (go figure...)

I wasn't really focusing on the quality of the animation.
This was just something quick and dirty.

I almost didn't upload it, but what the heck?
