Description
Just playing around with some new code I made for generating magic effects. I'm not sure what the story is, but I'm happy with the results. The scene was rendered in MegaPov 1.2 (based on Povray 3.6).
There is not any postwork other than resizing the image from the original 1440x1920 size.

Good! I see the dark elves apprentices are studying well at my dark magic college - and when they are trained enough...
I must agree with everyone else - those magical effect are simply too stunning to believe!! I tried POV-ray (after seeing the poser plugin mentioned on your images - thankyou BTW
) and the results are awesome... that's too bad it cripples my system outright! LOL! Time to get some brand new gremlins for my old pc, i think!! ...now, if only i could remember that "summon treasure hoard" spell...

Thanks for noticing. Everyone else comments on how cute she is. I guess they never noticed the blood red eyes. Makes me wonder what she's really up to....
Povray is capable of some amazing things. It's just not fast.... and it can be a bit..... daunting.

LOL! What can i say? I suppose my mind is more naturally attuned to the dark side!!
And the daunting part (i suppose you refer to the scripting language) would not be so bad to me, since i already have some programming knowledge, but my 'puter gremlins are "out for lunch" everytime i try to launch a POVRay render!!!

I cannot tell you HOW beautiful this work is. I hope to be half as good as you one day.

This is absolutely beautiful. I love it, and I especially love the sparkle effects that the bird emits. +fav. :]

Very pretty effects! Looks like a pretty young phoenix to me... Maybe he's healing her, transporting her, or just having fun...

Looks like you might have read my mind. I was kind of thinking of that series when I did this. I almost put a card in one of her hands.

I like the framing angle (POV) you've chosen for this image, it makes the image much more interesting.
The POVray effects look really good and I've seen MANY guys out there asking how to create such effects in forums.
In POVray you can do that with a curve formula, random spheres, and material attributes that are not possible to create in Poser.
As a matter of fact, Poser does not even support light-emitting materials, which is a serious restriction when creating SFX.
Great job!

Welll.. this scene doen't have any light emitting materials either (although, it does have a LOT of lights).
In fact, if Poser didn't have such aweful memory problems, I could have created this scene in it as well. There are still effects I can do in Firefly that I have yet to figure out how to replicate in Povray.

Really? SFX with FireFly? Now you got me curious...^^

Well, the following pieces were rendered in firefly. The glowing effects are not postwork. Playing with transparencies, ambient levels, and edge blends are your friends. I have a whole material library for these type effects. (Maybe I should make them available online someday....)

Hey, I didn't know glowing effects could be created with shader nodes, very cool!
I wonder if those things would work with Poser5, for that's the version I have. Lights are lame in P5...

Yes, it works fine in Poser 5. The image links I gave before were all rendered in Poser 5. Check out the edge blend nodes. You can do a lot of interesting things with that shader node.

Thanks for the hints!!
I wonder if I could have used this shader node to create these lightsaber effects --> [link] and [link] ?
