Description
Alucard from Hellsing. OpenCanvas 3 + Photoshop touch up. Don't know how long this took...Tried a different painting method on this one. Started with black, then add lighting to different parts, did't use any base color. All done on one layer, except the hair. Grr, but now it seems rather empty. :/ Not what I hoped... Gahhhhhhhhhh
Edit: minor touch up... make me feel slightly better about this painting now. but the bg is still a killer. T_T

ohmigod. that's the best fanart of Alucard colored that way. excellent. one of the best Hellsing fanarts out there. love his fangs. very evident...and the color scheme's good. it gives him a menacing feel. *fave

no biggie. i've just read your description of it..and...you made that in just 1 layer? awesome.
altho i cant really see the hair that much..it doesnt matter. it's dark. XP. but..his left hand doesnt seem to have an apparent glove on while his right does. (in your inking tut. he has on both). maybe my display is just dark. still, i love this.

From the Inking T. Where'd the thing, pattern, on his hand go? Or did I think that up?
I agree with you on the hair, it a bit too, like faded into the background. I haven't seen Hellsing myself so I can't comment on likeness of character or anything like that.

Whoa, that is amazing. I love the colours used on this piece, not to forget the pose. Brilliant, absolutely stunning, Alucard is my favourite vampire and you drew him wonderfully. ^^ I love it, breath-taking work.

wah! this is the one pic you used for the inking tutorial! X3 i really love the coloring for this...if it looks empty, i think it's only because of the hair (it kind of looks thin; but i don't know this character, so i can't really say much), but otherwise i love the way the cloak flows around and the softish-looking texture of it. <3 i the way that the gun glows too, it has such great contrast with the general red/blackness...movement of folds...mwuuu.

The hair is sorta thin. I was rather lazy when I come to the hair stage (it's the last stage in coloring). XD

LOL the inks disappeared, dude! ^o^ did you erase em, or am i just blind? Anywho, i really love how his gun seems to be the light source, ^_^ it's mucho cool! Amazing job colouring, as usual!

XD You are blind. Those are magical invisible inks!
...
okay i was lying. XD I cannot color a inked piece with my soft shading style. So i usually just throw away the lines.

Amazing lighting in this one. looks almost psycadelic. I really like the contrast of colour with the red eye versus the reflection on the glasses on the other eye. Very sweet. The facial shading is also freaking awesome.

One layer..?! Wow! As for background, I think the flying cape works as a background...still, I can't believe you used just one layer....gods...

look In reply to Aryi [2005-02-07 15:56:45 +0000 UTC]
The one layer isnt that hard, if you figure out the order to paint. (from back to front). Since I forgot to draw the hair first (it's pretty much on the bottom compare to anything else), I have to drew that on a different layer to prevent things from messing up. XD

Wow! Just wow! I really love the way it looks with black being the dominant color and all the rest being highlights. I've seen that style used here and there and always think it looks so dynamic and cool. I've got to try something in that style someday! lol.
