Description
Full view to see the tutorial. (apologize for the big size)yes, another tut from me... Felt this one may not be as helpful as my other two. but oh well.. my two cents.
Original Painting: [link]
The hair in the original is slightly different, because I forgot to take in progress shots when i painted it. And I end up doing a speedy repaint on hair just so I can take snapshots for the tutorial.

i have a question (because I fail at photoshop hair) how do you decide where to put the stray strands of hair? I have the clumps down but when It comes to the strays I just suck

Sorry for the late reply. I basically just draw it out loosely. You can start by trying to trace the outline of the hair clumps in a quick smooth gesture.

Very awsome. Hair is so tricky all the time. I'm just now dabbling in hair with a pencil and shading two tone mostly. This is wonderful information not only for messy hair look. But making it pop out at you. Thanks for taking the time to make a tutorial.

But... what a pity, you don't show us what kind of brushes we should use

I used openCanvas, and there are only two brushes, pen and watercolor brush, both round shaped.

Handy! I never thought that no two hair lines are parrallel, though if I saw it I might be like 'something's up with that dude's hair . . . . O_O?' and shade to the skull-ness shape, two gems of knowledge, so here's one for you I found in someone's signature: If life gives you lemons, POISON THE WATER SUPPLY! - FFVI Plot

Hi There!
You have just earned yourself an O.D.D. ! congrats!
ODDS (oibyrd's daily deviations) are to honor the sometimes overlooked artists of dA that I personally think deserve some exposure (and ALSO, to show off people who I think are undeniably talented in their own genre of art, regardless of their #'s of fav's or pageviews. I like what I like ). Please click the link below to see your work featured and to view other featured artists. If you prefer not to be a featured artist, just send me a note and I will remove you from the list. Cheers! xoxo Sandi

You're welcome
That was sort of an eye-opener. I never really tried to start out with flat colours, I always start shading too quickly, which leaves everything in a terribly messy state I need to try this technique - got a piece in the works that might just be asking to be coloured like that.
