Or, as I invariably put it, "Doctor Who..?"

Tell ya the truth; I've never been able to watch more than about three minutes of ANY Dr Who, before my gag reflex kicked in.  Obviously, I am in the extreme minority, but I do confess to really not getting the appeal.  Although, I have discovered that an extreme number of characters that have shown up on various Star Trek series may well have had their roots in this show - at least, the parallels are so great, I have to assume that.  So, for that at least, a tip of my hat.

As for your artwork and patented skewering of the show.. well, that pretty much goes without saying.  As ever, spot on.

Glad you appreciate the art, even if the show isn't your thing
I never watched the show until the recent Matt Smith run and I found his first episode in particular quite delightful and charming. Maybe it was just the fishsticks in custard
Never realised there were links between Dr Who and Star Trek though.. being a bit of a Trekkie nut, I may have to look into that
Cheers!

  • As long running science fiction franchises, there have been occasional story elements with marked similarities.
    • The cybernetic Borg  assimilate species in similar fashion to the Cybermen  and also use a similar catchphrase ("You will be assimilated"). Likewise, the warrior race of Klingons  share similarities with the Sontarans  and Draconians .
    • The Trill  also possess the ability to pass on a symbiont after a host body dies, allowing them to effectively live on after death, not entirely dissimilar from regeneration . When joined with a symbiont, the personality of the new host will change as it becomes an amalgamation of their own, plus those of their predecessors, as well as retaining all of their memories. Through specific rituals, it is also possible for the current hosts to interact with their predecessors, as seen in the Deep Space Nine episodes "Facets " and "Field of Fire ", which were DS9 equivalents of multi-Doctor episodes. The ability of Trill to take on the memories and experiences of others was also utilised when Terry Farrell  and her character of Jadzia Dax  was replaced by Nicole de Boer 's Ezri Dax , in much the same way Doctor actors are replaced when they choose to leave the series.
    • Like the Silurians , the dinosaur-descended Voth  are a sentient, humanoid reptile species that evolved on Earth and developed a technologically advanced civilization. Like those Silurians who built the ship in Dinosaurs on a Spaceship , the Voth left the planet, eventually settling in the Milky Way Galaxy's Delta Quadrant.

I had a strange and TV-less childhood and I never got to watching Dr Who until recently, but I had to put the scarf and brolly in there for those in the know

Speed definitely is an issue when you can arrive half an hour before you actually left.

Yay!! Cybermen, The Silence, Angels, Daleks, and more. No K9 though... and what's with the cat?

I love the Dalek's various balls and the Cyberman's on/off button. You're a legend LD, and absolute legend (I figure Loopydave would be an LD because just L doesn't tongue roll properly, and is more Bond than Who.)

Loopydave In reply to nerveZero [2015-01-09 13:19:49 +0000 UTC]

My best friends name is El, so it would get confusing if people called me 'L' as well. You have sharp eyes... wasn't sure if anyone would pick up on the Cyberman power off/on button.
As the cat, he's from one of our previous exchanges where I promised to draw a cat in there if I did the Tardis
Cheers Darren!

nerveZero In reply to Loopydave [2015-01-10 03:09:03 +0000 UTC]

I expect you get called Dave. I am Australian and at last count I knew 21 Daves.
There is Karate Dave, Kite Dave, Engineer Dave, Old Dave, Computer Dave etcetera.
If I ever have kids I do hope that my Wife doesn't name him David and thus me have to call him MC Dave (My Child).

I forgot about the cat. Ack! I feel like I've let down the side.

I reckon if the Cyberman actually had a big on/off button right where you put it, a lot of episodes would suddenly change.
(I'm surprised you didn't show the little rolley wheels the Daleks had in the early days. Pretty funny to watch one fall over and see its wheels.)

I hope I didn't miss the Firefly / Serenity Spaceship post. I'm looking forward to that one.

Thank you for bringing more of your humour and magic to my life and the lives of the many who follow your stuff. It is always a pleasure.

Like all the little details on this one!

Although, minor point... there was one episode, last one of the Sound of Drums mini-arc [which I can't remember the name of] where the Doctor, plus companions, fly the TARDIS towing the entire Earth behind it, clean across the universe [estimated on the forums as around 14.5 billion light years] *without* any travelling through time.. in less than "a couple of hours"... I dunno how fast that works out at, but seriously hauling a** !

Loopydave In reply to SiliconShaman [2015-01-09 13:06:31 +0000 UTC]

Cheers! Not familiar with the episode, but that IS some SERIOUS speed work there!

SiliconShaman In reply to Loopydave [2015-01-10 11:24:19 +0000 UTC]

Aye, not quite getting there before you left, but still not bad for towing a heavy load.

By the way, are you open to suggestions for the next ship?
