Description

Great tribute Dave, I'm convinced that Peter O'Donnel, if he could have seen this piece of art, would have been very happy with your tribute!

Nice tribute Dave. I'm vaguely aware of Modesty Blaise - never exactly been a fan, but I'm sure Peter O'Donnel will be looking down at your work with an approving nod!

Thanks man. I'm a real late convert to the Modesty comics, but have loved the books since I was a teenager.

Throw in some Prisoner, UFO, and Danger Diabolik and we've got a party!!! I was in Rome 2 years ago and a street vendor had a Diabolik movie poster from the 60's - 3 weeks in Italy and that poster was the coolest thing I saw- The wife doesn't agree

I have the UFO boxset and have been hunting around for Danger Diabolik on DVD for some time now - and bugger the colosseum - I know which one I'd rather have hanging on my studio wall

I really admire the lighting, especially the way it hits the woman's silky hair. Very realistic hands, too!

Beautiful lighting, and flawless textures, as always.
Classy tribute for Modesty's creator. We should all be so lucky to hit 90... and to have a LoopyDave tribute is the icing on the cake.
Bravo

Thanks man! 90 is a good innings (cricket reference there - Peter O'Donnell was British after all), isnt it?! And he left behind a legacy that will be remembered for a long long time.

Congratulations to you my friend on both the commission as also on the artwork⦠As always so perfectly executed and certainly a brilliant nod at the genre!

Loopydave In reply to MarkRaats [2010-05-08 03:40:40 +0000 UTC]
Thanks Mark! The fact that I was such a fan of the characters made me a little nervous painting this one - took a few sketches to get me going, particularly Modestys face. Despite her iconic hair do and eyes, she's a surprisingly difficult character to get a handle on. Went back through some of the fantastic early Jim Holdaway comic strips and once I realized he was chanelling Audrey Hepburn it made it much easier. Am commissioned to do another cover, so hopefully this one has been good practice for the next one!

Abso-fracking-loutely AMAZING!!!
I loved the detail you posted previously of the smashing lad...but the entire pic exceeds even all the previous coolness.
I love the contrast in textures in this illo. And for some reason her lips seem to really jump off the page at me.
Well done, OD.
I learn something every time I your posting hand graces my screen. XD

Thanks my friend! I was happy with the contrast between his weathered features and her flawless skin - gels well with the age difference and descriptions in the book. I have to learn to be faster though - spent a whole day just on the cave walls and you hardly even know they are there.
Bit disturbed the lips jumped out at you, but I suppose if you are going to be mugged, modesty's lips are not a bad way to go - hope you recover soon!
