Description
Fairly closeup detail from cover art - when I went to finish off the face I decided I rather liked having a little of the pencil showing through and consequently its probably not as polished as normal. Spent a whole day painting the helmet - bought it at an army disposal store and stuck it on my desk as I worked, to get the details right. Those things are surprisingly heavy!Related content

I like the little bit of sketch showing through. Although generally I admire you for the ridiculous detail + clean style I think it really works here. Something about this needed to look gritty, in my opinion, and I believe you picked just the right spot.

Thanks! I was going to paint over it some more, but I was quite happy with the way it looked and stopped! Sometimes knowing when to stop can make a lot of difference to the quality of a piece!

Excellent point. There is no greater "d'oh!" moment than when you open a previous version of something you've finished and see where you should have stopped earlier.

Stop lying Dave... you drew the whole thing from start to finish, from concept to final art... in about one to two hours.
I dare you to deny it... otherwise how would you explain away your mutant powers to create such beautiful artwork?

Spectacular work.. a little constructive crit.. the paint looks a tad too sharp on the softness of the face.

Thanks, and totally agree - was added at the last minute, just before I sent it off the client, and never got back to redoing the face paint.

The nutty thing is I was painting the figures at around 7000 pixels high, while still occasionally reducing the brush size down to a 1 or 2 pixel width - yes a little too obsessive, but as you said, I was losing myself in the pixels. Cheers man!
