Description EDIT: Updated with another version that makes comparing more easy on the eye. (Fixed perspective, gradient color, fixes on the previous blender version)

Well, as you can see, I compared 3 programs I do XNALara renders with, I'll tell you the differences of each IN MY OPINION, so my assumptions might be wrong.

3DsMAX: Renders the most realistic lightning and materials (especially when using mental ray), as well as offers the most options to tweak the model in whatever way desired, but a bit hard to cope with/handle.
Render quality: High
Ease of use: Low
PC Strength needed: High

Blender Cycles: Free to use and a bit easy once you learn how to set nods, lightning and such. A bit hectic when setting the camera (again, in my opinion) and using nods is a bit of a hard task, especially when you need to assign each and every material. But if you know what you're doing, you got a good 3d program with high quality rendering.
Render quality: Medium ~ High
Ease of use: Medium
PC Strength needed: Medium ~ High

KeyShot: One of the easiest 3D programs out there, as well as produces amazing results in several clicks, but a bit narrow when it comes to super tweaking the lightning/materials (unlike 3dsMAX).
Render quality: Medium High (If you know what you're doing)
Ease of use: High
PC Strength needed: High

So as you can see, those are only three 3d programs out there, there are many others fit for rendering in high quality, such as, for example, Maya, or Poser.
Experiment to find the one you like best of those, I can't say those are the most popular in either xnalara renders or any other renders, but I can say I've seen these 3 used the most (alongside Daz Studio though)

Furthermore, I'm not a huge 3dsmax pro or a blender cycles pro, but It's a glimpse of the results you can get through them.

Both the 3Ds AND the Cycles renders look good in their own ways. I've also seen some amazing stuff rendered in DAZ and Maya, like you said. Wonder if anyone has used XNALara in conjunction withΒ even higher-end rendering programs, such as Octane, LuxRender,Β or even Cinema 4D. Then again, I don't think the nerds at Luxion hadΒ video game charactersΒ in mind when they designed KeyShot(being that KS is mostly geared towards product advertisement and 3D concept art, thus explaining why it's features are more "bare bones" when compared to 3Ds and Blender). But who knows? Maybe KeyShot 5 will change that.

I absolutley agree, I've noticed that even shadows act differently/negatively in KeyShot than other programs.
And about C4D, I think I've seen one or two using it, they looked quite good.
And yeah, I hope that KeyShot 5 will do that, but I don't think they'll be changing that much in one version, maybe it will come gradually

Oh, definitely. It's a good thing to be able to apply DOF through KeyShot, would save so much Photoshop time

Yeah, it tends to show when certain models are "broken up" so to speak. Either that, or it's just the settings I have it on. You can see an example of this on a render I recently updated(look at Elizabeth's face)- chris-redfield-2013.deviantart…

Yeah... But I don't have this problem on any of the RE6 models... Maybe it has something to do with the software that Liz was extracted with(UModel)?

I love 3D MAX the skin looks awesome and the hair looks so realistic with Blender Keyshot is awesome too but it can be good with rendering with models that are like robots cars figures etc..........

I use Blender but i am a very noob beginner XD Β i can't use nodes propeply but i can render and edit textures and adjusting the camera for me is a little bit hard
