Description
This is a request fromI know it took me a long time but I finally wasn't busy lol ^-^
This is a basic tutorial that explains the general process for most of my paintings. I do it about 3 different ways, but this is the most basic and non complicated version .__."
I started painting this way because I'm a very impatient artist. I rather skip to the good stuff and leave the boring slow tedious processes behind. I hate drawing sketches and line art, so I mesh everything together and try to perfect this style.
I admit it can be a little more advanced compared to how easy it is to skip between layers and have each item isolated to work on. But with this style it challenges the mind to problem solve, change things as you go and visualize what you want steps ahead.
I'd say with this style I was most inspired by Kawayoo

I've been looking for tutorials on how to paint on one layer cause I suck and have an attention span the length of a match stick.
Thank you so much. If I ever post something I made with this technique I'll definitely credit you!

Density? Unfortunately, I only have Photoshop(at least until I graduate next year) , OpenCanvas, GIMP, and Paint.NET.
I don't have money for SAI.

Works the same for PS, I just used SAI.
You'd just have to adjust the brushes for PS.
-But the steps are generally the same

I just don't know if the brushes have a density option though. Maybe I should check again.

Then density in PS is simply the Hardness under the brush settings

Wow, thanks for this! I'm new to Sai and for practice I'm just working on some piece. Well, I do everything on separate layers... but this is tiring and takes a lot of time >_< I tried painting on one layer (or only a few), but the colors blended too much - completely failed at shading... I'm gonna try out the way you do it

No problem!~ :3
Blending effects used to bother me too at first. My first couple of pieces
came out to be airbrush looking disasters. lol xD
The key is just to simply practice and don't be afraid to mess with the settings of
any brush you use, like the density, the brush hardness, brush shape or even the
texture of the brush. Thats what makes one layer so fun I think, and you never
have to do it the same way each time ;D
You'll only get better if u practice. good luck

Wow, do you know, I always think guys who paint only with 1 layer are GENIUS!!! >3<
I just can't manage to draw on only 1 layer cuz I'm not confident in my previous coloring or stretching...you really did a good job!
