Description
Have you spread some Random Love today?TMNOTE!
This Greasemonkey Script is Obsolete as of deviantART v6's Release
You can now use deviantART's native Random Love-ish buttons using the following steps:
DescriptionThis script adds two buttons to the Main Toolbar. One which directs you to a Random Deviant and the other to a Random Deviation (using the inbuilt dA Random Link as shown at FAQ #535: Can I search for a random Deviant/Deviation? ).
TRY AND MAKE deviantART A BETTER PLACE
I have added a thread in the Suggestion Forum here to try and appeal to the powers-that-be to consider incorporating user creations, like this script, into the deviantART website itself, rather than relying on userscripts. Please visit the thread and lend your voice to this appeal.

Cool.
Be aware that dA's Version 6 layout will make this script obsolete, but until then, Happy Random Loving.

Nah - No new script, won't be needed as this functionality will be part of the new DeviantART Layout in v6.

I just found out about the random deviant and random deviation buttons yesterday, and was annoyed that I had to scroll down to get to them.

I'm trying to code something very similar to this, except to put an Help & FAQ icon at the end of the top menu. Could you help me with this at all?

I Love the Random Dviant button. But I just wish there wasn't so many people who think that any textbook anime doodle counts as art. I've literally trawled through pages and pages of anime crap trying to find good random deviants.(and I dont just mean in my opinion, I mean they have no talent and upload bad quality scans and photographs which show felt pen doodles they did at the back of math class and then ate lunch off of).But Ifound a few really great undiscovered people. It was especially great when I was new and didnt know how to navigate the site so well. But the simple volume of people who will post any old rubbish really puts me off now Im afraid. But Ill do some now justfor you!

Lucanos In reply to MMMerangue [2007-04-24 06:36:35 +0000 UTC]
Well, thank you for your efforts in seeking out new deviants.
I agree that it would be terrific to add some kind of filtering option to the Random Deviant/Deviation feature, as just as I, personally, don't really get alot of the anime stuff, I am equally sure that some people don't like the photography I enjoy.
Oh well, one can only hope for the future.
Thanks again.

I like this a lot... however, is there a way to add the Random Deviant/Deviation buttons at the end (after Forum) rather than at the beginning? Just wondering, my knowledge of JS is limited >.>
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Lucanos In reply to bonekhan123 [2007-02-25 14:43:56 +0000 UTC]
The buttons can basically be positioned anywhere along that line quite easily.
I might look at changing that in the next release - what you see here is a replication of how the script worked in the dAv4 days, so for alot of the older users, this is what they are used to.
Happy to hear it helps make your dA experience better.

Make sure you check back after dAv5 is released, as (if they don't include a Random button in their layout) I will be updating these scripts for the new layout.

This Random Love script is excellent!
However, I think the two little graphics for both the Random Deviant and the Random Deviation could be done a little better. I think some nice pixeling would finish this off nicely. I'd be happy to give it ago if your interested.
Either way, this is really handy! Good job!

Thanks for your comment.
It would be a nice addition, as would some of the othee functions provided by the hard work of other deviants who have created GreaseMonkey Scripts.
I created a forum thread HERE to try and garner support for a suggestion that deviantART start looking at some of the more popular user creations like these and incorporate them into the site design. If you would like to lend your voice to that thread, it would be appreciated.
But, regardless, I hope you enjoy the Random Love script.

Lucanos In reply to moritzw [2006-04-18 13:18:48 +0000 UTC]
Hahaha...
Keep those bookmarks handy though - when they switch deviantART over to the new layout I'll need to recode these scripts to ensure that they behave.
But, until that day comes, enjoy!

I heard it used to be part of the standard interface.
At the moment it's hidden out the back of the Message Centre.
This script remedies that.

Yes I know, but when trying earlier today it didn't work at all. Got a page not found.
It works now though, great addition!
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Lucanos In reply to johan-s [2006-04-07 01:59:12 +0000 UTC]
Sometimes that will happen.
It's normally because you have been randomly redirected to a deviation which has been deleted from the system.
You can tell that by the URL - if it's something like http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/0 then that's the cause.
Not a problem with the script, just a small issue with the way that the site redirects you to random pages...
If, however, the symptoms are different, let me know and I'll see what I can do.

johan-s In reply to Lucanos [2006-04-10 00:29:15 +0000 UTC]
Actually, the URL turned out something like [link] (got it set to skip deviation and go into view directly). Though it seems to work perfectly know, guess it was just temporary.
