Description
Have you spread some Random Love today?TMNOTE!
This Greasemonkey Script is Obsolete as of deviantART v6's Release
You can now use deviantART's native Random Love-ish buttons using the following steps:
DescriptionThis script adds two buttons to the Main Toolbar. One which directs you to a Random Deviant and the other to a Random Deviation (using the inbuilt dA Random Link as shown at FAQ #535: Can I search for a random Deviant/Deviation? ).
TRY AND MAKE deviantART A BETTER PLACE
I have added a thread in the Suggestion Forum here to try and appeal to the powers-that-be to consider incorporating user creations, like this script, into the deviantART website itself, rather than relying on userscripts. Please visit the thread and lend your voice to this appeal.
Share The Love! - Get outside your comfort zone, find new friends, discover new art, explore the dA Community.
Want to Discover Unknown & Unrecognised Artists? - Check out DeviouslyArtistic.com a dA-related project by Β°jark and a number of other dedicated deviants.
Version History0.2 - Now dAv5-friendly!
0.1 - Initial Release
InstructionsIf you are experienced at all this, then just access the version you want from the links above in the "Version History" Section.
- Get Firefox (If you haven't got it already)
- Install it, of course.
- Get the GreaseMonkey Extension
- Restart Firefox (to Initialise the Extension)
- Click HERE and select "Install"
- Enjoy!

I think it's an error in some other exception I have installed...but I'll send it anyways.

Nice idea.
It should be hard-coded into the site though so its available for IE & Netscape users too...

In a perfect world it would be.
In this world, it might be.... but it's up to the dA Admininstrators to do it.
Almost worth creating a Forum > Suggestions thread to garner support for it as a native feature. (I'd hope the deviants who have accessed this script would lend their support there...)

They should make more of a point of random deviation.

It'd be nice, and you never know, it may happen at some stage.
Keep your fingers crossed that someone, somewhere may see the popularity here.

Here's hoping that history, in one respect at least, repeats itself and the link returns.

You might well have!
You may have started the idea, sent it through the ether to me, where I grabbed it and did it.
Parallel evolution and all that...

hehe yes maybe but i don't think so, but when something came through the ether from me it was only a little part of it

Well, both this tool, and the tireless efforts of community-minded deviants.
Check out [link] to see a bit of a different take on Daily Deviations, where the contributors try and focus on unknown artists in the dA community. Worth the look.

this is a brilliant idea, as is im not going to mess with greasemonkey or anything but those are two great button additions that deserve their own official place on the bar (as the actual links are hard to access if you dont know the url)
π: 0 β©: 1
Lucanos In reply to Seikin [2006-03-16 17:11:18 +0000 UTC]
Awww... C'mon - GreaseMonkey is a terrific tool, especially on websites where response to user feedback is less than lightning fast.
But, you never know, they may include these buttons in the official bar at some stage...

do you HAVE to have firefox?

As far as I know, Opera also supports Userscripting, however I have not tested whether this script would work on that yet.
If you're interested in that option, email me and I'll do some more testing (and, as required, port it across).

No chance of catching anything, other than an addiction to art!

i always wanted to see a random deviation or deviant since coming here!
now if only there was a way to search randomly in seperate catagories.....
π: 0 β©: 1
Lucanos In reply to heartbat123 [2006-03-16 17:16:49 +0000 UTC]
I know - I was trying to see whether there was a way to do that, but I don't think the system (native deviantART system, that is) allows that.
It might be doable using some new script actions I am learning, but I will have to look into that and see what I can find.
Anything I discover and create, will surely feature in my gallery again.
