Description
Here is the short story of Nathaniel Thomas, who hates his own name and prefers to be called Dice (or Nathan):as a kid, he had nothing special besides being a grade A student... that was until his 12 years, when his family car collided with a truck, which throwed Nathan through the windshield. After waking up from an 8 week coma, Nathan discovered he had lost a minor part of his brain, replaced part of his skull with a metal plate, fractured most of his arms and legs' bones, lost part of his memories and that his father died in the accident.
After recovering, he realized his survival must have been somewhat of a miracle, especially given that he had zero to none sequelae from his injuries, what made him decide to live life at fullest, playing, learning and helping others (and later flirting with others) all he could to live up to this second chance he got.
After such transformation and such randomness he acquired in his life, saying yes to everything and not backing down in the face of a dare or a difficult task, his closest friends joked that he “had developed many sides, like a dice”. The nickname stuck, not that he didn’t like it.
He learnt german to win a bet, became a professor in capoeira just for the purple cord, moved in and out of japan to learn electronics and robotics, became a scrapyard artist, a ladies man and even joined the army once, just to name a few of the life achievements of this "always in a good mood" person.
He claims to look like a golden retriever (even if Boscans evolved into having little to do with dog breeds), to be fascinated with the feminine form, to be a fierce fan of Star Wars and an avid internet user. He is also known to often make remarks considering quotes and scenes from internet, books, movies, actors and even historical figures as much as he can to ilustrate his thoughts when proper words fail him.
Through the 16 personalities classification, he falls more on the ENTP-T type, a natural debater and ultimate devil's advocate in almost every situation: Extroverted, Intuitive, Thinker, Perceptive and Turbulent.
COMMENT ON THE TATTOO: it's a "reactive" paint that contaminates the melanocytes of skin where it was painted IN, which equaly dyes the skin and the next fur to grow at that area. It needs shaving first to be more effectively applied, but complex drawings won't look that good after the fur has grown, and it can fade away as the fur changes over time (the "poison" in the paint is metabolized and becomes diluted), and If there are no melanocytes left where it is applied (aging or albinism), the paint won't have any effect besides a normal tattoo, requiring traditional hair dyes or shaving of the area to show the painted skin.

Its not hard to think that an advanced civilization would come up with ways to permanently dye their fur coats... right?

Genemods could do it, nanites could apply it if they take supplements, that's about as much as I know.

Oh yeah. But those technologies aren't available to us right now, and since a "fur tattoo" could represent the same historical importance as normal tattoos in our culture (in tribes, for example), I would expect it to be much more simplistic than nanorobots or genetical modifiers... I heard that the intake of beta-carotene is what makes flamingos pink, while some tribes in South America uses Tapiragem, a process that consists in plucking feathers from live parrots and infuse the remaining folicle with special substances so the next feather to grow would acquire the desired color.
If isolated tribes can have the means to change the color of feathers, maybe these anthros could have developed similar techniques to use on themselves... afterall, human tattoo is nothing more than toxins applied to our skins that becomes trapped when defense cells tries to "eat" them.
