Honestly this could be said for practically all fiction as a whole. Even back in the time of Aristotle, when he stated in his Poetics that there were only X plots in all of fiction (can't remember the number, I think it was five, but I'm likely wrong). Not much for cartoon-watching anymore myself, but whether it's cartoons, video games or anything else, it's more about HOW a story is told rather than the content of the story. I mean, back in Aristotle's day, everyone knew the story of Oedipus, but they went to see Oedipus Tyrannus anyway because they wanted to see Sophocles' take on it. *shrug*

No they're not. Every audio track is intact. We're only missing the video portions.

Wait, aren't those are just radio dramas? Doctor had pretty long radio show.
I heard BBC reused/rerecorded tapes with missing episodes as they usually did with materials which they didn't need anymore. So this means there shouldn't be audio tracks.

No, those are from the actual show. All of the audio tracks from the missing stories are intact. Some have been reconstructed with pictures, crude animation, and the occasional narration from Frazer Hines (Jamie McCrimmon). Which is why it's possible to save them using other media such as animation (and I hope the BBC figures out how to hire actual animators, not amateurs; give me ten years to study and hone my craft, and I'll animate all the missing episodes myself).

Hey, it's a fair question. Our current crop of Japanese animators all grew up during the 90's which saw two significant developments: (1) Evangelion and the whole "conspiracy anime" setup, (2) Sailor Moon, and (3) the explosion of cable/satelite TV as a medium for broadcasting both original and classic shows.
