Description Thoughts: Originally this was meant to be Julian Robotnik reflecting rather more hatefully on his roboticized arm. However, the image had ended up somehow more... Biding. Not necessarily peaceful at first glance. General lines included across his uniform and pauldrons denote areas I was toying with for alternate or unexpected functions and capabilities of the suit itself.
Col-erase marks on the peripheral are aesemic notes on various areas of his armor or body, largely taking account of mechanical properties and articulation.
Strangely, due to the shading, it seems that his upper body is overshadowed by a pall of darkness, as opposed to illumination.

Details: A simple sketch which a friend managed to convince me to scan. Originally unintended to ever be posted here, I'd decided to add it to this section merely for volume and it's developmental/rough contrast to my previous submissions.

Materials: mechanical pencil, orange/blue col-erase. Canson sketchpad paper. (Mild digital colors added to his eyes.)

Cynicide: Incomplete shading over the image surface and my typical nest of lines break up the integrity of the image somewhat, but the 'work-annotations' - in orange col-erase no less - are a mild oddity. It also appears I am falling into this sketching formula of always colorizing Robotnik's iconic moustache and eyes for the sake of variety. Consistency is good, but I don't relish it.

Hmmm, what goes on in his mind... what thoughts dominate the mental landscape of the greatest monster a world has known in recent history... what dark, vile images, theories, and memories flit in and out of the head of a madman...?

Oooor is he just wondering "Chocolate or vanilla? Chocolate or vanilla...?"

XD Great stuff as always. Especially the way his physique is built as being flabby yet disguising a rather powerful build underneath. Always liked that idea about the big round guy being a wall of muscle underneath the blubber.

Heh. Greetings, Ape.

Yes, indeed, vanilla or chocolate... Both plants cultivated across the world in a competetive industry and cutthroat settings. Whichever appeals to the masses is a factor of taste, ideology, and industrio-social war. Serious indeed. (That, and they both taste good, and there's only so much -time- in the day for an industrious sociopath like himself.)

But again, thank you for the opinion. Likewise, I've also held that Robotnik must harbor some unknown stregth; it suits him, both in that nearly comical sense as you've described, but also in his characteristic manipulative/deceptive fashion as well. (It's one matter to work with treacherous mercenaries and underlings/allies, it's a whole other when they attempt to turn on the essentially helpless 300-pound loafing scientist-genius.... Only to find they've made a severe misjudgement.)

Heh, totally. Of course, it also helps being of a species that, even without the additional padding, has a tendancy to be twice the size and strength of yon average mobian... man, you gotta imagine the intimidation factor; there you are, 3 feet 3 inches of fluff, staring up at a 6'3-6'4 hairless giant with a gut that could probably hold your body... and then there's the glowing red eyes and the creepy mustache and the general sensation of being around someone that has no soul... XD

Heh. I love the life your comments bring to any work of mine, Ape. Surely it's all welcome.

I've often wanted to see more of the Great War so often alluded to in the Archie continuity, but the more I see, the less I am impressed. Still... I've my own ideas, as said before. Likewise, with comparing the relative qualities of Mobian and human... Yet alone the later shadow of Robotnik's effect on the world of Mobius; it's a matter for another time. (...And later art. I am beginning to itch for a chance at sketching a few random Mobians of various species; I've been wanting to toy with their height and physical attributes. I would see most as being within the three to four foot range, with a few rarer species or individuals/characters more of a human-average. However my main interest is just what effect Robotnik's phyiscal presence alone would have on those around him, depending on the situation.)

Thank you again, Ape.

Just a guy with too much time on his hands, is all XD

Ooh, pictures of mobians? That'd be neat ^^ Your Robotnik art is number one, your style quite complimentary on him, so I do have to wonder how it'd apply to the species so maligned by The Big Round Guy (true depending on continuity he screwed over his own race, but you get what I mean).

Hmm, from what I saw in the comics and cartoon regarding mobian height, there do seem to be many factors, as there is variety in mobians of all stripes. This would manifest itself in the comics with some members of the same species being drawn more realistically or more cartoonily (I chalked this up to it being an example of differant breeds of mobian and not due to artistic interpretation). I got more on the subject, but I'm gluttin' up the comment box as is

Keep up the awesome stuff.

Heh, multiple interpretations abound, I see. So long as the amusement, inspiration, or interest runs deep, then the purpose of sharing the scrap-art is largely accomplished.

You have that professional streak my friend; simply by taking into account mechanical points and articulation you have progressed far above the 'n00b' status. I'm impressed.

Ok then say "newbie". N00b is more of an idiot...Since it comes from very young internet beginners that used to add numbers to their words so it's sort of insulting.

i was n00b once 2! 8D

I was just explaining, and finished with a silly sentence to show I didn't mean harm. D:
Sorry if it sounded harsh. It's just a warning as I know of OTHER people who will really get defensive from that.

Greetings once more, Sahkmet.

You surprised me with your swiftness of comment. Yes, most of my sketchbook is festooned with such notes; I don't consider them to be of much significance in and of themselves - but one such project of mine has been a sort of mental syntactic script, which would at least see to the unification of such marks.

Though, you do leave me a little perplexed with the last sentences of your post: progressed far above N00b? (Where was I before?) And you relate that you are impressed - why so?

Forgive my curiosity, but I'm wondering about the reasoning and insight within those comments.

Thank you again for your time, Sahkmet.

By leaving notes as such, though, you have progressed and shown you DO take such intelligent means into your art. Many don't think to apply it, like writing your work down on how you solved the math problem. It's either they don't, or they never thought to apply it.

By n00b I mean those who have only recently started to begin drawing or do it sparingly. Art that is at a child-level that will progress further or it will take much longer, depending on the person and the enthusiasm for improving. You were never at that level though. I used the term not in the right context, I'm sorry.

I certianly appreciate your clarification; there is no need to apologise, Sahkmet.

Notes are integral to the clarification of my thought processes behind the work, and also in delineating the threads behind what makes the work effective, where it stemmed from, what it is reflecting, and how it was impacted by it's own recursive projection. As I said, virtually half of any page in my sketchbook tends to be written notes, or those aesemic marks.

And yes, thank you for telling me of your concept of 'n00bism' and art in general, I'm grateful.

Good luck for now, Sahkmet.
