Description
This is a free pattern that anyone can use when making a fursuit.
Please remember that you can use this pattern for your own fursuit or as a reference but Do Not post this pattern to other websites or use for commissions. Do Not use this pattern with suits that you are wishing to sell or for premades. Please make sure to mention you used this pattern when posting pictures of your suit, I love seeing people being able to benefit from this pattern and love seeing what you make!
I have now added a pdf version here: :fav.me/darty9p
Materials:
Faux Fur
Fleece/faux leather or whatever you want to use for the pawpads
Sewing machine (recommended, but you can also hand sew)
Thread
Scissors
Box knife (recommended for cutting the fur to avoid chopping up the fur)
Pattern
Clippers
Optional Materials:
Bias Tape
Claws/Fimo
Directions:
1. Print pattern on any normal sized piece of paper (8.5 x 11 inches)
2. Cut out the pattern. For handpaws that have differently colored fingers compared to the body, cut the fingers from the pal along the blue line. For single colored handpaws, ignore the blue line. Make sure to cut out the paw pads, but you do not need the cut out circles.
3. Trace the pattern onto the back of the fur, taking note of the fur direction as indicated by arrows. Trace each piece of the pattern twice, then flip and trace twice again. Make sure to trace the paw pads on two of the traced patterns, one on the first two you traced and one on one of the flipped patterns.
4. Cut out the pattern: allow for about a 1/4 inch seam allowance outside of the lines (do not cut directly on the traced lines). Do not cut out the circles of the paw pads (we will deal with this later). Keep track of which pieces were flipped.
5. Shave the fur for the fingers and the palm of the gloves.
6. For handpaws with differently colored fingers, sew the fingers onto the palm of the handpaws using a standard straight stitch.
7. Sew on paw pads: I recommend using this method: www.youtube.com/watch?v=cnmUTk…
It makes sewing paw pads on very easy and looks neat.
8. Once the paw pads are done for both the left/right handpaws, match up the pieces with the paw pads with their matching pieces for the back of the hand that don't have paw pads. Pin together with the fur facing each other (it will look like it is inside out).
9. Sew the outline of the handpaws. When complete sewing, trim the edges as close to the seam as possible, being careful not to cut the seam (this will allow the fingers to move more easily). Turn the handpaws right side out and gently pull the fur out of the seams.
Optional additions:
Sew the double sided bias tape around the cuffs of the handpaws.
If you want claws, you can glue premade claws to the fingers or you can add some Fimo claws.
The pattern shown is the left handpaw with the palm facing you.
Which fingers go in which finger in the pattern?
Far left=thumb
2nd finger= index finger
3rd finger= middle and ring finger
4th finger= pinky
I will post pictures of how the handpaws would look like.
Feel free to use this pattern for your own personal projects but please do not use this pattern for commissions.
