Description Edit: Yes I know he was always called Dr. Eggman in Japan and Dr. Robotnik was used for Western audiences until the early 2000's. Please stop reminding me about it.
But at least hes still called Dr. Robotnik in Archie Sonic Comics & the DS game Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood.

I decided to rewrite this description because a lot of people pointed out hes always called Eggman, they dont mind not calling him Robotnik or they dont care if hes called Robotnik or Eggman. This was just a simple stamp i made 3 years ago for those who grew up in the 90's and knew Sonic's nemesis's name as Dr.Robotnik till the 2000s when he was known as Dr.Eggman worldwide.

Its just a stamp for those who like his old name. It sounded more sinister and threatening as well as describing his profession (Making Robots). You dont have to like this stamp if you dont want to. I already know hes always called Eggman in Japan and i see it as some sort of Nickname to him. I like the name Robotnik and its the name I grew up with.

I'm sorry if i offended anyone who likes his current name Dr.Eggman. But if you like Dr.Robotnik as well feel free to fave this stamp.

yeah, i thought the idea of The Sonic Characters going to Earth and hang out with Human characters a bit odd. I much prefer it if it was set on Mobius.
Thanks very much, glad u like it.

YES! I grew up watching the old cartoons and playing the games, so it's kind of unnerving when I hear people refer to him as 'Eggman' nowadays. Personally I think Dr. Robotnik is more of a sinister sounding name, whereas Eggman doesn't really sound intimidating at all. Nice stamp!

yeah, i only grew up with cartoons. I never played the sonic games until I got sonic CD for the PC when i was 13. I'm glad to hear that you also like the name Robotnik.

wow! a comment from the doc himself! well, over ere we grew up with the name Robotnik due to the cartoons, and thought it was more fitting. Maybe Sonic tagged on the wing fortress Zone.
Anyway thanks for the comment Doc, and dont give up trying to kill Sonic.

Laharl234 In reply to ??? [2009-09-26 08:54:31 +0000 UTC]

Eggman has always been his name. It was his name to begin with in Japan, the 'Robotnik' name came about as one of Nintendo of America's many, many screw ups, like the invention of "Mobius".

As for the SatAM Robotnik, a.k.a. Robotnik Prime, he died. That was a different continuity from the games anyways, but SatAM flowed into the Archie comics where Robotnik Prime died, and Robo-Robotnik came from another dimension and became Eggman.

But yeah they changed the name to Eggman in NA to be more in sync with Japan. It wasn't trying to 'butcher' him, it was technically a butcher to change his name in the first place.

Personally I see no problem with either name. Eggman's a moniker, Robotnik's his last name.

Heh, something wrong with those statements:
Sonic is owned by Sega, not Nintendo; and neither did invent Mobius.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Laharl234 In reply to Twylis [2009-12-01 02:50:25 +0000 UTC]

No I said Sega of America heheh. Ahem we'll just um... yeah.

Man that's embarassing. I meant Sega, my brain just wasn't... we'll just pretend I said Sega. Shhh don't tell anyone I screwed up.

Actually Sega of America did invent Mobius, it was them behind the old TV shows in essence and I believe they mentioned Mobius in the instruction manuals several times.

Point stands that Robotnik is actually the butcher, not Eggman.

Twylis In reply to Laharl234 [2009-12-01 03:06:03 +0000 UTC]

Mreheheheeee (9 9) I'll keep it a secret!

And I remember now; didn't "Mobius" arise from a translation error when the developer ppl were talking about a mobius-strip concept??

Personally, I really like the way the comics pull things together. The comics supplement both the shows and games, creating a neutral ground that totally asplains both territories.
And has other speshull stuffs toooo~

Laharl234 In reply to Twylis [2009-12-01 04:19:31 +0000 UTC]

Yeah I've loved Archie for that. It's very clever of them to find creative ways to change over from being like the old cartoons to being like the modern games and yet keeping their own elements added in.

As for the games, well they're usually episodic and lack much stringing together. But most of the well known video game titles do that. Mario and Zelda for example, but we still love em.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Twylis In reply to Laharl234 [2009-12-01 04:24:09 +0000 UTC]

Exactly~

My only problem with the games at the moment is the artstyle and the constant gimmicks.
I mean, JUST LOOK AT THE HUMANS! So..ugleh...*points at Prof. Pickle*
And the Werehog = gimmick!

Everything else is fine though. (n n)
Honestly, if the glitches and loading times were fixed, I think NextGen could've been one of the best Sonic games ever.
*is weeeird*

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Laharl234 In reply to Twylis [2009-12-01 05:51:43 +0000 UTC]

Heh heh, yeah the humans aren't very well designed. One thing you have to give Sonic X kudos for is at least they gave the humans a respectable appearence.

Personally I like the artstyle, the sleek anime look just works. Makes Sonic look fast, Tails look smart, but still athletic, Knuckles look tough and Dr. Eggman look weird. But the ordinary humans suffer.

As for gimmicks... well yeah sometimes. But I generally don't mind gimmicks. They amuse me and are fun. The Werehog was amusing and different, though it's true they kind of overplayed it a little. I actually have to say Black Knight is among my favourites because I love the take on King Arthur and the colourful fantasy world it takes place in.

Sonic may have gotten more serious, with creepy monsters like Dark Gaia or Black Doom, and it may have introduced some gimmicky playstyles, but I think it's still got the crack-induced insanity that we love about those old sidescrollers. You know with pink dogs, little glowing blue dinosaurs, robotic ladybugs, loops in the ground in the middle of nowhere and so on.

Twylis In reply to Laharl234 [2009-12-01 12:47:40 +0000 UTC]

I wholeheartadly agree~
Although, for gimmicks, I think they're fine for the spinoffs - but they feel awkward in the main series.
And, as everyone knows, the music has always been awesome; and I don't see that changing any time soon.

Now, the question is, will Project Needlemouse be any good? (9 9)

The SatAM Robotnik may be dark and sinister, but I prefer the AoStH Robotnik. He's too comical to be hated! And who could forget his famous word (in Youtube Poop that is): *ahem* PINGAS!!!

Eggman is his Original Japanese name btw. -w-;
Sonic "was" created by a Japanese man named Yugi Naka after all...

Otherwise, great stamp! :3

'Eggman' should only be used as Robotnik's nickname, AND USED SPARINGLY AT THAT! I don't sodding care if the name 'Eggman' was used all along in Japan - Just because something's Japanese does not always mean it's better.

For me, the days when Robotnik was called 'Robotnik' were the good old days...before Sonic tried too hard to be 'cool' and 'serious' (or in the words of TV Tropes 'darker and edgier.' HE'S A SODDING HEDGEHOG GODAMMIT! How serious can you make a cartoon hedgehog?!

Sorry for my rant :sweatdrop:
