Description
Edit: Yes I know he was always called Dr. Eggman in Japan and Dr. Robotnik was used for Western audiences until the early 2000's. Please stop reminding me about it.But at least hes still called Dr. Robotnik in Archie Sonic Comics & the DS game Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood.
I decided to rewrite this description because a lot of people pointed out hes always called Eggman, they dont mind not calling him Robotnik or they dont care if hes called Robotnik or Eggman. This was just a simple stamp i made 3 years ago for those who grew up in the 90's and knew Sonic's nemesis's name as Dr.Robotnik till the 2000s when he was known as Dr.Eggman worldwide.
Its just a stamp for those who like his old name. It sounded more sinister and threatening as well as describing his profession (Making Robots). You dont have to like this stamp if you dont want to. I already know hes always called Eggman in Japan and i see it as some sort of Nickname to him. I like the name Robotnik and its the name I grew up with.
I'm sorry if i offended anyone who likes his current name Dr.Eggman. But if you like Dr.Robotnik as well feel free to fave this stamp.

aparently 'Eggman' was the translation from the Japanese name 'Robotnik', Or something like that, so it may have always been Eggman.
It doesn't matter what you call him, it's right either way.

I grew up on Robotnik, not Eggman.
Robotnik sounds like a name that inspires fear. Eggman's a name that makes him sound like a wuss.

Yeah, Eggman seems to be a bit of a wuss on how he was portrayed in Sonic X. And he doesn't seem to be as threatening in the current games, letting some monster take the role of 'main villian'.
Thanks very much fer the comment.

I love both SatAM's Sonic and Sega's Sonic as a Sonic Fan since kid.
I want to hear more "Robotnik" in the future, much as you.
But please don't mix the two universes on the same bag. (It's a mistake of so much good people out there)
Even being theorically the same character, they are very difrent
Sega's Ivo "Eggman" Robotnik was always been a comical bad guy and not-so-evil.
Go see the Sonic Team's Artwork pre-Adventure of him.
OH GOD SO MUCH FEAR. \Sarcasm
SatAM's always been more evil and the posture of a true villain.
So please, i'm not asking you to "like" Sonic Team's Sonic (It's very notorious that you hate it)
But please don't impose things like super EVIL Robotnik on sega's games, since im sure that you don't like the oposite, A comical not-so-evil bad guy in SatAM for example.

Pure sinister and evil characters usually have either no personality or no personality worth caring for. This was the case with SatAM Robotnik. Eggman has shown that he has a conscience numourous times in the games.
From his actions, it seems like he wants to rule the world to make it a better place. Remember, GUN murdered his cousin Maria in cold blood. I would assume that he wants to take power away from these lunitics. This makes him a much more interesting character that you can actually feel for sometimes. This also creates a much more interesting dynamic between him and Sonic, Eggman fights for control to make the world an better place, while Sonic fights for freedom to make the world a better place. Who's way is actually better here? As I said, this dynamic makes the plots of the games much more interesting for me.
While the name Robotnik may be "cooler", the name also brings back memories of the evil and less interesting SatAM Robotnik. That is why I support the name Eggman.
(Or, at the very least, the name Ivo Robotnik, rather than Julian Robotnik, which a rather large amount of people think his first name is.)

well, it is your choice to call him this way
however, Eggman is in fact the characters proper name
Robotnik was a name that the American distributors came up with, but Eggman was used in Japan and some other countries right from the beginning
when Sonic Adventure came out in the US, the distributors decided to use his original name
I personally use the name Robotnik while referring to the incarnations in "Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog" , Sonic SatAM, "Sonic Underground" and "Sonic the Comic" by FleetWay
When referring to the character in the games, "Sonic X" and "Sonic the Movie" , I use the name Eggman
Interestingly, in the "Sonic the Hedgehog" comic by Archie, Dr, Ivo Robotnik and Dr. Eggman are two different characters.
Robotnik is based of his self in Sonic SatAM, while Eggman on the version in the games

Glad to see people out there call Dr. Robotnik by his real name after Sonic Adventure I don't know why Sega had to start calling him Eggman it's just so stupid he's not made of eggs and Robotnik sounds so much more evil and being a fan of the old school games and Sonic SatAM I will always call him Robotnik!

Luke-the-F0x In reply to ToastyWarrior [2008-11-16 14:06:11 +0000 UTC]
Well it was mainly because he was always called Eggman in japan, his machines are called 'egg something' and he looks like an egg in shape. But yeah I was into the old games and cartoons and he was the big baddy then, not to some creature he tried to contol and he becomes comic relief.
Thanks mate for the awesome comment. I'm glad u like it.

Given your objective here that is "not to call good old doctor with his new name", you still have written "Eggman" four times.. Sorry, I couldn't resist..
Anyway, good that you have made this stamp. As for some facts, his older name had this egg reference (from what I know "Ivo" read backwards gives japanese word for "egg" as a result--clever, eh?), so now "Ivo Eggman Robotnik" seems as intelligent as latinizing latin terms (I still can't get over "Condate" being called "Condatum" in one of the Asterix movies). Whole issue of cutting names to one obvious word came out of SEGA's "notion" that people are too stupid to memorize lenghty personal data---so instead of "Ivo Robotnik" we've got "Eggman", instead of "Miles Prower" we've got "Tails" and that spawned whole ongoing trend of naming characters after the first thing that comes to mind.... Though I feel more comfortable calling him Eggman, since"Robotnik" is exact word for "worker" in Polish language and I feel really weird reading character's name that is basically a word I use almost everyday..

wow, this is a really good detailed comment. Yeah i try to use the name robotnik more than Eggman but i often forget that objective. What I like about Robotnik is that is has 'Robot' in it and that is what he does, makes robots.
So thanks very much fer the awesome comment, and I'm glad u like the stamp.
