A little love for The Land of Morning Calm, The Great Han's People Nation, The Republic of...you guessed it! KOREA! It's a little late for Chuseok (Harvest Festival), but in my case, better late than never! Korea is a beautiful land from the large, technologically advanced city center in Seoul, to the majestic, misty mountains, to the beautiful rivers running through the golden countryside. I have a very special place for that great land in my heart. I am certainly proud to be Korean.

Somehow, this was also an old image that I never got around to coloring or doing much with. I started coloring it digitally, but didn't like how it was turning out and never finished it. So I re-vamped it, re-did the linework, and colored it traditionally.

The story of the image itself? The girl in the image is named Aehwa. In circa 630 A.D. (during the Three Kingdoms Period of Korea) is born into the royal family in the Silla Kingdom with two younger sisters. Because her father never bore a son, Aehwa's younger sister, Donghwa, took over his kingom, and she and her youngest sister Myeonghwa were married off to other kingdoms. She meets her betrothed, Prince Moon as a child but falls in love with him as she grows up. He gives her a fan one hot summer. Years later, before she could take the throne as Queen, she is kidnapped and during the process is left behind after hitting her head. She loses all her memories of being a Princess. But somehow, she keeps the fan close to her heart. Blah, blah, blah, blah. You get the idea. I never named her as a particular person from history, but the story is in fact a fantasy/made-up version of Deokman's elder sister, Seonhwa (whose existence is a bit controversial...).

NOTE: THE FAN ORIGINALLY DID NOT HAVE THE KOREAN FLAG SYMBOL ON IT. I put it there in post production once I finished the rest of the image. Therefore, the image worked with the story up until that point. If it were still with the story, it would have the imperial symbol of The Kingdom of Baekje on it.

Oh, and also, the next person to tell me that I drew the "cherry blossoms" in the background and then proceed to tell me that I drew them WRONG, I will punch them through the Internet. Okay? Look up Rose of Sharon on Google and educate yourself, please.
