Description

The sensor systems provided by the Shadows and Interstellar Alliance led the EA to several breakthroughs in the mid-2260s. The result was a new type of sensor grid, which proved to be a quantum leap forward in technology. Though not up to the standards set by the Centauri and Minbari, it is among the best of the remaining Younger Races, and is astoundingly good considering the brief amount of time the Earth Alliance has existed as an interstellar power.

The most advanced vessel – electronically speaking – in the Earth Force navy, the Delphi is the first vessel of its kind to use the new EA sensor grid. It has revolutionized scouting practices since its emergence in 2268. Using a fully tachyon-enhanced communications array like those found on military stations, the Delphi can stay at extreme ranges well beyond those of a normal warship and fully scan entire systems without even triggering the long-range scanners of the enemy. The Delphi uses dozens of wavelengths of previously untouched radiation to home in on enemy vessels tens of thousands of kilometres away from their position, allowing it to use electronic warfare at staggering ranges, keeping it safe from hostile ships.

The Delphi scout was designed to replace the venerable Oracle class, a ship plagued by a variety of difficulties throughout its lifetime. The dual sensor suite proved too vulnerable to damage and required more than twice the maintenance of any single sensor grid. The Delphi's designers solved this and many other problems in their development of the new ship, though it is still poorly maneuverable, as can be expected from most Earth vessels. The medium pulse cannons and decent array of particle beams allow it to defend itself against fighters, eliminating the Achilles heel of its predecessor.

The Delphi Advanced Scout had the following armament:

-Four Medium Pulse Cannons
-Five Interceptors Mark-II.
-Eight Particle Beam Turrets.

It could also deploy four shuttles, which could be armed with particle beams or a few missiles.

The Delphi-class Advanced Scout is from Babylon 5, it appears mainly on official material like Babylon 5 Wars, Ships of the Galaxy, A Call to Arms and EarthForce Campaign Book.
