Description A Total Lunar Eclipse on the Winter Solstice.

Taken from Austin, TX at 1:49am CST.

A broken cloud layer hampered visibility and reduced contrast and sharpness, but the blood-red color still shows through the clouds.

You're lucky you had a chance to see it. We had a really cloudy night in CA.

This is what i love about DA how different things look around the world!this is my offering, but with the benefit of a very crisp clear sky,and minus 6 degrees C and this is about 12 hours after the eclipse,[link]
great work!

It's funny but every time I get a little bored with my desktop background... you provide a new one!

I used a Gitzo carbon-fiber tripod with a Wimberly head. To shoot straight up I had to extend one leg 2 feet farther than the others and balance it with my hand.

I used the flip-back viewer on the 60d to great effect. I shot in "Live mode" which locks the mirror up, and meant I didn't have to squat under the tripod and balance it at the same time.

Thanks for the detail, it's nice to know as I was pretty curious I had a point-and-click once with a flip-back viewer. I've missed that feature ever since. Really a useful feature for special shots!

I'm so mad it was cloudy here! I live in central KY and we had a snow storm all night so you couldn't see anything in the sky :[

same here, it was raining like mad so we had no visibility the whole night.
