Yep. Also question, how do you still maintain the style and the lines of the character? Because when I animate, the style and the lines slowly shift around.

Do rough and key animation first (something like this link ) add details with each pass and inbetween later, knowing the fundamentals and how to simplify the body is also good since moving simple objects is more easier (look artist "Krenz" and how he draws the anatomy, it's really helpful: link to google search ) Also draw a lot, from real life, character designs you like and try to understand how things work. Animator Guzzu have many full stream videos where he animates: link   Very good example how using simple shapes makes things easier to animate. There are different ways of doing things, if you look Guzzu's work, you see that he mostly do straight ahead animation (he might animate with keys when doing professional work, not sure).

Sorry for this mess of a reply, I wasn't able to explain things as well as I was hoping, there are many things which affects and I didn't want to make huge scary looking essay (and I can't use this animation as an example because I made almost everything wrong haha)     Oh, and animate as often as you can, that's also thing you can't really go wrong with

Oh nice! I may try this out tho (By try this out I mean the entire technique and stuff, from rough to line art). Anyways, thanks for the tip tho, doesnt matter if its long or not, its worth the shot uwu.

Flip the frames back and forth (you've probably seen disney animators flipping through papers, it's kinda like that), it helps you to see the motion and see if the character changes unwanted ways, also previewing the animation helps. If you don't have program which supports frame by frame animation, there is free flash version: link   Keep things simple, like for example, I often use boxes and circles for my heads, it's easy to notice if those start to change, simple shapes for the win. You can also do character sheet for your character where you draw it from different angles (example link ), this way you have less interruptions when you animate, like, you don't have to stop and think how character looks from the side since you already have it drawn from the side

I'll give couple of examples from anime, how those looked before coloring/cleanup/inbetweens.

Sorry, I just realized I didn't look your animations (to see what you know and where your skills are) before I wrote this and previous message and now that I looked your works, I noticed you certainly have passion, but you might lack on the animation basics like the "12 principles of animation" So I really recommend you get the book "The Animator's Survival Kit" by Richard Williams, it goes thoroughly all the basic and advanced stuff. Many, many animators have it, me included, and it have been super helpful. Keep up the good work!

Hm..I've seen disney animators do it though, I guess it does help.

A-Aaand those were my older animations, e-eheh ;; But yeah I guess its stilll the same up until now. I can show a more recent one if I can find a way on how to post it on dA through mobile. o3o;

Lzyboost In reply to HttydatAJ [2019-04-08 11:52:43 +0000 UTC]

And not just disney animators, all across the world are using it (what I've seen) more or less so maybe it's useful haha. I think it's good to try learn it so you have one more tool which might help you. I was lazy and half-assedly learned it, now I'm trying to properly learn it (maybe more to just get it to be bigger part of my work process) and it's way harder now haha.

Oh, so sorry! I'm super busy, but if you want, I can try to find time to look your newer stuff (if you are able to post it) and compare where you've improved and where you can improve

Thanks! So sorry, I didn't plan to finish this; I made this to practice animating a character and do it the way like I was doing this for a studio (since I also need to practice that)

Yeah, if I do illustrations, I'll color those, but for animation there is no need for it since I aim to working for a studio, I will do my best

Awesome job with the Cuphead game by the way, I have it, but I've not had to time to play it just yet haha

derpberd In reply to Lzyboost [2018-10-31 18:30:58 +0000 UTC]

Hahah!  Aww, thank you so much!

Admittedly, I haven't played past the first few levels.  It's really hard, and I spend too much time animating to play really hard games.  The irony!!!

Just curious, what's your medium? I use TVP nowadays!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Lzyboost In reply to derpberd [2018-10-31 21:21:24 +0000 UTC]

No problem, whole team did so good job!

Well that's still more than I have haha, I think it's not that rare creators don't play their 'creations' when finished, like, I did animation to one show and I've still not watched it (but checked the cuts I did haha)

It's all good, I use good old Flash, thinking if I should move using Clip Studio Paint EX   TVP, I tried it once or twice, felt good to draw, but it wasn't program for me

derpberd In reply to Lzyboost [2018-11-01 08:33:35 +0000 UTC]

I finally had to use Animate CC on my last project, and got to learn *Flash* as an animation tool for the first time.  That program is powerful, and it's way better than it used to be.

Your work is amazing, and I'm so glad you have a medium that enhances your vision as this does.  After all, your viewers will never know the medium, but they will damn straight remember the animation/story/action.  Stay rad, man.  You are absolutely fantastic.

Lzyboost In reply to derpberd [2018-11-01 13:23:15 +0000 UTC]

I use Flash 8 and have Animate, which I move to if I keep using Flash. I would keep using 8 if it wasn't for very useful addon which you can buy for Animate, like, it can create xsheet and flip canvas and such

Thanks again, your work is real good too, I have mad respect for those who can make full animation, keep up the good work! Yeah, it doesn't come in my way when I do animation haha, I used to advertise what program I used when I was using Flash MX (which is old no longer supported Flash you can get for free), to kinda prove a point to me and others that you don't need fancy programs, just need one that suits you
