Description Holy crap but this is a blast from the past - 2003 ladies and gents!

Anyhow, as is probably rather obvious, this was a crossover between The Phantom of the Opera (combination of Leroux and ALW characters) and The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. It remains one of my favorite phanart works.

The characters I've employed are The Daroga, Erik the Phantom, Madame Giry, The Shade in the felt hat, and The Ratcatcher. Though I wasn't going for strict character transposition between the two books, Madame Giry can be said to inhabit the role of Mina Harker, and of course The Daroga is representative of Captain Nemo.

Size: 8.5 x 11 inches
Medium: Pencil, ballpoint pen, Photoshop 7.0
Disclaimer: The Phantom of the Opera belongs to Gaston Leroux and to some extent to Andrew Lloyd Webber. The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen belongs to Alan Moore. The photo used in the background is scanned from a book entitled 'The Paris Opera' by Moatti and Kahane.

Thank you! And yes, the Shade must remain a mystery. Though, I admit early on that I had a theory that Erik and the Shade were one because it'd be really awesome if Erik were working as some kind of agent for the government, lol.

I love that movie! Both of them actually, I can't seem to realize someone actually put that together. I'd enjoy reading a story or watching a movie on it!

And you're welcome!

Ahh, I honestly don't know quite enough about the League to have written anything, but I'm sure I bounced a few ideas in my head back in the day when I originally drew this.

Well I've seen the film - none to impressed with it either - but I'm told the comics are much better. So I'll be taking a look at those sometime.

Never seen the comics--I never even knew about any comics for "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen".

Oh, and okay. (A comment to when you'd take a look at the comics)

Very nice! I recently got done reading LOEG: The Black Dossier and Erik is actually mentioned quite frequently in the "Sincerest form of flattery" chapter.

Somewhere between 1909 and 1924, the latest incarnation of the Murray group, consisting of a rejuvenated Alan Quartermain, Orlando the gender-changing immortal, gentleman burglar A.J Raffles and naturally Mina Murray herself, battled their French counterparts: Les Hommes Mysterieux in the phantom's former lair beneath the Paris Opera House. The battle ended when Fantomas triggered the explosives that had been placed in the lair by Erik himself several decades earlier.

There is a brief mention of this in Volume 2 but The Black Dossier really gives you the whole skinny.
