*** BE SURE TO SEE FULL-SIZE IMAGE ***Well that was fun, the item was done in Paint Tool SAI & I made the simple graphic in GIMP. I hope everything is explained thoroughly enough, sorry I didn't go in-depth on shading but as it stands, I'm not very comfortable with my shading so I didn't want to explain that step too much.
Please note that item styles vary from site to site, and everyone has their personal style as well. If you have any further inquiries please feel free to leave me a note and I will try my best to answer them, thanks for viewing!

This reads very well, I think beginners shouldn't have a problem following along. ;D
Though to be fair, I've made custom items before so I have an idea of what you're saying. xD
Shading isn't really easy to explain, since it's something you've got to learn on your own. Though I do find that since you shrink the final product by quite a lot, it might help to make your shading quite dark and your highlights quite bright so that they show up nicely. c:
I also have to say that I'm impressed with the metal shading and the grip detail. ;D
