Description Alright, sorry it's been so long. Trying to explain/knowing what needed explanation and what was obvious just didn't seem to be working. I'm still developing the class a little each time I teach it. Please credit and link back to me if you use it.

Again, suggestions for clarification would be good

Have fun and let me know what you make!

Maybe I'm being dense, but how did you finish the piece so that wires aren't poking the person wearing it?

Squeeze them flat with pliers, they normally behave. With gold and silver wire I use the 3M super fine sanding stuff to smooth them out.

Keep an eye out. You can find slightly larger ones at craft stores and scale up a little, I get my stone chips at gem and mineral and bead shows, you can google to see if there are any reasonably close to you. I've had decent luck getting them on etsy when I'm hard up, though I do certainly prefer to see them.

Okay, thanks! :'D

I managed to get some good practice in with some good seed beads recently. They're fun to make. =w=

...what's a prescription bottle...? o.o

magpiesmiscellany In reply to Peccantis [2012-11-02 20:20:27 +0000 UTC]

Oh, sorry. Around here they're the small round bottles that prescriptions come in when you get sick. They close tightly so a lot of people keep them for beads. I just find them a good standard size object a lot of people own. Outside of class I actually use a spool of thread pretty often. For larger pendants I've even used the base of tea candles.

Oh, those. I guess I've only ever seen them on House MD It'll be hard to find anything quite as small 'round here... A bottle neck might do nicely, I imagine one could fit the branches nicely... given the chips are small enough. Or what the heck I'll just drop you a note on Etsy once I get money 9v9 Been drooling at those beauties for quite a while

Anything small and round, you don't have to do round, it's just easier. I've done rectangular ones too, they're just harder to get centered.

Cool, let me know how it turns out-and if you have any suggestions for making things clearer, I've signed up to teach an intro to wire work class at a local adult ed this fall (if enough people sign up for it to run!)

Link back if you post it?

ill let you know how it turns out. its also great that you have visuals in the tutorial. mostly i learn through visuals. im not that good learning in just text sometimes. ill make sure to post it soon. i just love learning new techniques to expand new creations to make.

magpiesmiscellany In reply to CrystalizedFantasies [2012-07-20 15:19:36 +0000 UTC]

I am mostly visual, but sometimes I've found I have serious issues understanding what someone is doing in a photo!

CrystalizedFantasies In reply to magpiesmiscellany [2012-07-21 16:32:07 +0000 UTC]

ah yes i have the same problem. the only way i could try and understand of what is going on in the pic on the tutorial, i just look, study, and follow the patterns on how each step goes. mostly of course i stumble on one step and it takes me awhile to figure out how that part of the project goes and then later i figure out how it is supposed to look like and how it should be followed. mostly in situations on weaving lol.

I used your tutorial but added a couple of branches and used a larger base. It was my first attempt at jewelry so it isn't all that great but I made it with my own hands which is pretty cool. [link]

magpiesmiscellany In reply to IllanaBehir [2012-04-14 02:01:27 +0000 UTC]

Looks great, especially for a first attempt at jewelry! (And don't be too hard on yourself over wire waste. I tell myself I'll waste less wire next time each time...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

IllanaBehir In reply to magpiesmiscellany [2012-04-22 04:50:45 +0000 UTC]

Thanks for saying so. It makes me feel much better about it. I've made a couple more and didn't waste nearly as much wire as I did on the first one.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

magpiesmiscellany In reply to IllanaBehir [2012-04-22 04:58:11 +0000 UTC]

Part of the trick is, if you think you're going to be wasting wire, but enough so that you can reuse the left overs
