Description Alright, sorry it's been so long. Trying to explain/knowing what needed explanation and what was obvious just didn't seem to be working. I'm still developing the class a little each time I teach it. Please credit and link back to me if you use it.

Again, suggestions for clarification would be good

Have fun and let me know what you make!

I'm glad I did it, I was afraid it was too simple and people would find it silly and I couldn't figure out how to explain things so kept putting it off!

Quite simply one of the best artisan craft tutorials I've seen.

You make it look easy, but I see myself getting pissed just trying to make the base circle.

magpiesmiscellany In reply to Calliope-Jones [2011-10-13 13:43:17 +0000 UTC]

It is annoying at times. When I'm in the mood I make extra frames so when I'm too stressed or distracted to concentrate on my usual wraps I can noodle around and make the trees.

The prescription bottle makes a slighly larger pendant than I use for precious metal pieces, but it's a nice standard. Any tube like a spool of thread or a candle will work

Anything I try with wire comes out all wonky.
Can you do the base with copper?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

magpiesmiscellany In reply to Calliope-Jones [2011-10-14 01:29:02 +0000 UTC]

I've done plenty that way. I'm personally a little bit allergic, so tend to make the frame either coated copper or a different metal, but it handles fine. Stands up to mor epounding than aluminum actually, though it is much heavier.

The weird/frustrating thing I will warn you of if that different gauges sometimes have different reaction times, so they change color at different rates.

Oh, I'm not planning on attempting it myself. I know I'd get frustrated way too fast. That was my way of saying "HEY I want a copper one!"

Awesome! I make my trees in a completely different way, so it's cool to see how you do it.

magpiesmiscellany In reply to MorrighanGW [2011-10-13 04:33:55 +0000 UTC]

Well, you know me, I'm pattern adhd, so I've a few different methods, but this is the one I come back to the most. Seems to give me the best control over trunk shape. I'd be glad to see how you do yours though

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MorrighanGW In reply to magpiesmiscellany [2011-10-13 04:37:05 +0000 UTC]

Well, I make the tree (without the stones) first, and then I fiddle around with the frame design before putting it all together. ^^

magpiesmiscellany In reply to MorrighanGW [2011-10-13 13:40:47 +0000 UTC]

MorrighanGW In reply to magpiesmiscellany [2011-10-13 15:27:12 +0000 UTC]

Nah, you can still play around with the frame shape and that can be fun!
