I second Daniel Storm's comments.Β I thought it was a picture at first.

You know what Malcolm? I initially thought this was a slightly - touched up, black and white photo of the car and landscape.Β
It took me a couple of minutes to realize, "Holy jeebus this is a pencil drawing!"Β
Your mastery also motivated me to get back to drawing (Haven't done anything for 9 months ).Β

Wow! Great investment of your 140 hours!
I like the composition with the car filling the picture plane at an interesting angle.
The fact that you chose a three quarter rear view adds interest as the car ends up facing the road in the direction it was going.
The vast expanse of scenery adds to the feeling of total abandonment.
Your proportions are spot on, and you did an excellent job on the foreshortening. You really captured the lines and character of the car (1949 Buick?) very well.
You have a gorgeous range of values here. Your value range is used very well in convincing me that it is sunny and hot out here...and i can almost feel dust in my teeth.
And, obviously, masterful use of value changes to show the planes and contours of the body.
It's a sterling piece of work!
It's a very strong piece of work!

Thank you very much Daniel! I'm humbled by your kind words.
I aimed to keep the values as accurate as possible to the original reference - it's often easy to start throwing in a lot of dark/black which would have added too much contrast and spoilt the mode/tone. I'm pleased with the results and glad you like the work.
Much appreciated.

This was done in PENCIL? I swore it was a photograph when I first came across it.
