Description

Finally got to finish up another (and second to last ) UNMC heavy weapon, because every military needs cool rocket launchers for those glorious explosions. This will be the UNMC's primary anti armor weapon and exclusive weapon to be carried by the character Jenna Cruz in the comic. Took lots of reference pictures for this model, the AT4, SMAW, RPG-7 and M41 from Halo were all influences on its final design, and I think it came together pretty well in the end. I took a lot of time thinking about how big the launcher would actually be which prompted me to include a size comparison between the weapon and a human sized figure, and I don't think its too unreasonable, in fact for being 300 years from now I could've probably made the weapon even smaller but for now its good as is.

The ATAW was introduced into the UN armed forces in 2312, right at the final years of the war against the breakaway factions. A surprisingly lightweight and easy to carry weapon for its size, portability and reduction of the soldiers combat load were essentials through the design process. A large portion of the ATAWs ingenious design lies within the rockets made to be used for the system themselves. Incorporating advanced and high strength polymers in the rocket casing allowed the significant backblast from the firing of rockets to be redirected into specialized vents built into the rocket housing itself, shrinking down the radius of lethal backblast by a significant amount. Along with a combination of shock absorbing semi-solid film that covers the vents and helps dissipate the blast, the ATAW extremely safe to use in enclosed environments therefore allowing it to be much more feasible for urban combat operations. When the rocket is fired, the ATAW will automatically eject the rocket housing, making removal of the spent cartridge an easy process to any soldier. The 65 mm rockets used by this weapon are also extremely powerful even against heavy armor, able to pierce effortlessly through light armored targets and cause catastrophic damage to heavy armor as well if hit in lower armored areas. The ATAW has the ability to lock on to ground vehicles and acquire laser designated aircraft if they're flying low, although its effectiveness against aircraft is reduced due to their speed and defenses.
