Okay, here's a tutorial on how I color things when I actually try. This is by no means a definitive resource for Photoshop learners, but I hope it can help a few people, at least...Related content

This tutorial was beyond... Well... I actually can't think of an appropiate word to describe my feelings. I'm just blown away you added in so many well descriptive details. I'm definitely going to try some of these steps next time I color digitally. But anyway, just really nice tutorial and really cool character too.

This is a great tutorial. I've always wanted to try using the burn and dodge because I'm too lazy to make a color chart for my artwork and only want to work out base colors and let the computer work out the shades. I know the result might not be as pretty but it's faster and more fun. (and I was going to try using the burn and dodge with selections made using the lasso tool for a more cel-shaded effect).
I just wanted to ask if you knew, is there a reason why professional artists don't use the burn and dodge tools in their works?

thanks very much
Burn and Dodge are just a quick fix, for the most part. The reason professionals don't use them is because you have more control by selecting the color shades manually

Hmm. That's understandable, it just takes longer choosing bright and dark shades all the time, but I guess custom swatches do make it a little faster.

*EVIL LAUGHTER.*
I am so going to try this.
One thing I think you forgot, though~ when something is glowy, usually it will um...change the lighting a bit? :3 Like there should probably be a few red tinges around the glowing eyes. Because it's projecting its light.
Not like I should be talking, though D':> I'm terrible at colouring.
And not be a smartass or nothin' D: (I'm probably gonna get shot for this..) When you're talking about "it's" as psossessive, it would be "its". "It's" (with an apostrophe) would be "it is" 8D *shot*

Once again you are a god among men with timing for these tutorials. This will extremely help me when I get to the coloring stage of the comic I'm trying to draw (or at least hopefully will draw).
