Here's an illustration from "The Enormous Egg," a classic chapter book from the 1950's I was hired to re-illustrate for Little, Brown & Co. I had a lot of fun doing this book, and took the job very seriously, since I knew the original had been admired by several generations of readers.Related content

Uncle Beazly!Β I remember reading The Enormous Egg in the 1960s -- I loved anything dinosaur-ish, but actual literature devoted to the subject was rare.Β But it was the era of the Sinclair Petroleum Expos (where machines created model dinos while you watched), Turok, Son of Stone, late night and afternoon movies (often prehistoria-related), and Marx plastic toys (they made obscure things like Kronosaurus, Semouria, Megatherium, and Sphenacodon.Β You just can't get a good Sphenacodon these days!).
There was an "After School Special"-type adaptation of The Enormous Egg in the 70s -- but the triceratops was a stiff, barely-moving plastic model -- heck, it was like a statue people were pushing along from off-screen.
Anyway, I hope to find the edition with your illos someday.Β Meanwhile, why not consider re-illustrating "The Shy Stegosaurus of Cricket Creek"?Β

Oh, the memories! Β I read this book at least three times, and I own it! Β I would recommend it for anyone's reading list. Β Another book, though good luck finding it, would be City Under the Back Steps by Evelyn Sibley Lampman.

If youve ever read Dinotopia: A Land Apart from Time and Dinotopia: The World Beneath I got this memory of Carl have to take care of his life partner he named 26 because her mother layed 26 eggs and all exept this one was destroyed in the wild ^^
