Description This tutorial is getting more attention lately, so I've updated it. and reopened comments. I will close commenting agian if people get all holier than thou again.

Apparently I cant change the gallery because they'll never load. you'll have to download the doc until I can.

I'll add more FAQ as they come along as well enjoy.

FAQ
I get SO many notes about more questions. I'll add them!

Q: How do I set up paypal?
A: It's different for different countries! I'm Canadian and from what I hear the American paypal is very different. other countries .. who knows. you will need to follow the instructions that paypal gives you, and ask them if you have questions.

Q: Can you go through my gallery and tell me if its worth opening commissions/I'm good enough/ how much to charge?
A: No, I can't. Sorry but pricing is something you have to manage on your own, and it's up to you to open commissions for your OWN reasons, not because i said you're cool

Q: What option should people use when sending money via paypal?

A: I'm not sure which ones have fees or not, but i generally choose "other" or gift"

How do you put a price for requesting commissions? I've tried so hard and gotten so frustrated with it.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Marker-Guru In reply to Beautimousness [2015-07-20 23:37:35 +0000 UTC]

Well, its a very personal thing.
I put a couple of methods in the pricing section of the tutorial. you can do per square inch, compare to other commission prices or an hourly rate. Lots of ways.
It is frustrating but its worth it to figure out. Once you have a system that works for you its easier to tweak it later on. a little frustration now will save you more later.
its not something I can just give an answer straight out, unfortunately

They're not a lossless file type. As they're saved they lose data. For longevity it's not optimal.

aadisart [2012-12-01 06:51:16 +0000 UTC]

this is amazing, but i have one small doubt...
i am pretty confident about my skills in traditional art (shading+copics) and digital art (cel shading as well as the painter-ly style) but i am also confident in my animation skills (2d very short animations; mostly looping). The huge question from my side is: what do i offer up for comiision?? is it ok if i say that i will draw EVRYTHING which i mentioned above? or should i draw only one of the three categories??? Im sorry about my english, but i sincerely hope you understood this.... I need help on this part. I am thinking of startng a journal entry for commisions soon. Thanks.

PS: I suck at backgrounds, so will people neglect it if i say that i wont do backgrounds???

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

Marker-Guru In reply to aadisart [2012-12-14 06:39:12 +0000 UTC]

You offer what you're comfortable with.
If you don't want to do backgrounds - characters alone only are something you could do.
Basically, offer what you're comfortable with. Then you can't go wrong.

To the PS part: maybe charge more for backgrounds and say that you won't do complicated ones C: there are tutorials for background.

I suggest EVERYTHING. you're good at all of them - and more than 1 choice will lure them in C:

hope I helped.

It means they can turn on and off layers, or make some changes yes.
lasso tool is just a way of making selections of an area.

I'm not sure if this has been questioned or answered but, for artists who uses paypal to receive money, do they use the 'gift' option or the other option that paypal offers for a fee?-

Marker-Guru In reply to Cerulians [2010-06-05 21:51:25 +0000 UTC]

super-fly-rules [2008-04-08 11:48:40 +0000 UTC]

I'm a bit confused on how I would do commissions for CG. I read in the article posted above that I can send them the psd or a printed image. But I can send them a watermarked image and that should be ok? And my printer isn't that good XD I'll get to a stage later in my drawing life when I can do sketches and send them or use traditional media. I also realise that the sentence before the one I'm typing contrasts with the one you wrote about "I'm not good enough" but I'm not to happy with sketches atm but I am practising ^^

I hope all of that made sense. If you want me to clarify anything I can

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Marker-Guru In reply to super-fly-rules [2008-04-08 17:01:38 +0000 UTC]

Generally speaking, if someone is Paying for art work, you shouldn't watermark it. sign it yes, Always sign your work.
If you can print professional quality prints are nice, but i think I high res version is best, sent over email.
