Description
WOW, I made this a few days ago, but it wouldn't upload until now.
This is going to be a series of video tutorials exploring the Amazing world of Plastic Animation Paper (this website has awesome tutorials as well)
This program is a paperless rough and clean classical animation program.
It has an X-sheet, light table, blue and black pencil (Home version) , layouts and many more tools. its an exceptional program.
If you choose to explore and eventually Buy the home version of this program, please send me a note before you do, and I'll tell you how to set someone up as a referral to get the home+ upgrade, and as soon as the person who gave me the referral gets the upgrade, we will carry on the chain of pimp and refer :3
The program is very inexpensive as far as programs go, and for the amazing things it can do so please do check it out.
This tutorial is a basic run through of the UI and very basic tools. the tutorials is about 14.5 minutes long.
I'll be doing more of these, and for toonboom as well so stay tuned
(lol I accidentally put the fella watermark on instead of the one i wanted

How do you add sound? I've found the "Load Sound" icon but it seems to not take mp3 files?

I haven't used it in a few years now, but i think I remember the type of compression on the files being an issue sometimes. I'm sorry i really don't remember what the best file types work best. I haven't used it in so long :<

Not in this program. this is a rough animation only program. you would have to export the frames and pull them into something like Toon boom or flash

Excuse me, when I first downloaded this program, I was able to make orange frames to where what I drew on the previous frame was duplicated, but I can't figure how to do it again for the life of me. Do you know how to do that?

Ahh neat! I don't know when I first heard of it, come to think of it. I think I was googling for a line tester.

I was looking at the website for tutorials and saw the stork animation was colored, but they don't actually explain HOW to get colors, unless I'm just dumb and overlooked it. But how do you get colors into the animation?
π: 0 β©: 1
Marker-Guru In reply to F0XBLAZE [2015-07-20 23:34:43 +0000 UTC]
It has to be done in a seperate program like toonboom, manga studio or photoshop. Colour can't actually be applied in Plastic animation paper.

F0XBLAZE In reply to Marker-Guru [2015-07-20 23:54:45 +0000 UTC]
That sucks, cause I can't even get the animation to save let alone try to add color from another program :/
π: 0 β©: 1
Marker-Guru In reply to F0XBLAZE [2015-07-22 23:18:41 +0000 UTC]
You have to export it as frames, not an animation (png's usually), and colour the frames individually. then you compile the colour frames back into something like Toon boom studio or something like that
I also did a tutorial on exporting as AVI. The PDF option is in there too so its the same steps just choosing PNGS instead of avi.

I kinda figured that's what I would have to do, but what I meant was a while ago I tried doing a test animation in PA and it didn't save for some reason. I had like 15 frames done but when I came back the next day it was as if I started a new one even though I opened the file I saved it to

F0XBLAZE In reply to Marker-Guru [2015-07-26 18:51:53 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, I'm pretty sure I saved it right and I doubt it would have saved only the name if I didn't so idk what happened

trinagem In reply to F0XBLAZE [2019-05-26 20:58:52 +0000 UTC]
what i do after drawing smt new is
-click U4 at the top right corner
-click on the button saying (save quickly, overwriting last version)
-go to C:, pap-projects, scratch, anims
-on the down right corner make sure its LAP file type
-then name ur project and save
if u wanna open it again, go to U4
-and find the button that says (load animation, or string of single frames)
-click on your file and click load
in order to save ur animation after animating do all that I said above, and after clicking ur file it'll say overwrite, click yes
I know that this question was years ago but I just wanted to comment just incase anyone else had trouble saving. Because this took me about an hour trying to figure this out on my own.Β

Hey! Did you know that PAP is now in development for a new and modern version? - first to come is the Mac version, then Windows and iPad follows. Check it out: animationpaper.com

Oh Neat! Finally!!!
Thanks for letting me know about it. I don't mac so I think a version for me is a long way off but thats exciting

No problem.
But don't worry, we are planning on doing it for Windows and iPad as well.
BTW: Could you fix the broken link at the top? The old domain name doesn't work anymore. I dropped the "plastic" word

NielsKM In reply to Marker-Guru [2014-03-13 09:17:58 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, why not Android too. All that is required is a stylus with pressure sensitivity - otherwise there's no point on doing an Android or iPad version of Animation Paper. I hear some good styluses are on the market these days. So we'll definitely look in to versions for both Android and iPad (and Windows as I said). But first: The Mac version. That's what is buzzing around in my head right now.
Anyway, thanks for your help spreading the word. And I would like to encourage people to sign up at the site (animationpaper.com) - do it now so you'll get the early bird discount offer when Animation Paper is finished. (offer closes at the end of this month - March 2014).
Cheers,
Niels

YAY!
There are some good styluses. Wacom makes one that I'm interested in.
I signed up and I told all my people that used PAP before about it too

Hello, I have a queation about PAP. I'm really stuck on how to upload an animation fromPAP onto dA. I saved the file as an avi. file but when I tried to upload it (into the right category too) it says the file type isn't allowed. I looked up the file types that dA accepts and it had avi. as one of them, so I'm just really frustrated and confused as to how I can upload my animation. I need to find an answer ;~; Β

Marker-Guru In reply to ThatOneMuffin [2014-01-23 03:20:51 +0000 UTC]
You should ask someone like the Gallery director (or whatever they're called now) for the film category. Sorry, its been so long since I've even been ON dA I have no idea of the requirements anymore.
It's Likely a Codec or something else.
There should be something in the FAQ.

This program doesn't do Colour. you can export to something like toonboom which I've done tutorials for. [link]

Toonboom is hella expensive to get. onless there like old free download version for free or something.

Marker-Guru In reply to Mihorrorshow [2013-02-16 23:29:05 +0000 UTC]
It's only $199 right now [link] . Things cost money.
That's pretty cheap for all the work it does.
you can export in a multitude of file types, and import into any colouring program to colour if you want, but then you're still stuck with getting it back to a film type. Toon Booms worth it.

That's abit to much. if i had that kind money i would buy a Ps3, but again i would buy one in process to get a job and buy a ps3.

I've had this program for a while but I was having some trouble trying to use it. I came back to your tutorial and then everything just kinda clicked. I followed along with what you were doing and I found myself going "OHHH!!" more than once (especially when I finally figured out what the red pencil was for! YES!) So thanks so much for this resource, it's excellent! Now I can practice animating!!

Very nice tutorial . I'm using PAP for a project currently in the works and you explained tools well, some I haven't touched to far. I hope you accept this piece into the gallery for Non-Photoshop. The group is meant for all works not made by ..I think you can guess this
. It would help people learn of this software. I'd never heard of it till late down the road of an intense internet based search for 2D animation software.

thank you ya it took me a long time to find that program. i was always frustrated how animation programs were really hard to get or deal with if you werent a school or a massive company.

systemcat In reply to Marker-Guru [2011-05-10 00:16:44 +0000 UTC]
Welcome and thank you for letting the piece get featured
. 3D animation programs outside of the Bryce line I have hard issues dealing with. 2D on the other hand
. I started animating through traditional means with paper, pencil & camcorder. So this program feels like returning to my first roots of knowledge over the subject but with better tools
.
