Description Mandelbulb 3D v1.8.9: www.fractalforums.com/index.ph…

_tocylindrical/updateC2/Mandalex/SierpHilbert in Alternate mode.

This piece was inspired by scenes from the Iain M. Banks SF novel 'Excession', in which one of his General Systems Vehicles or GSV's; the 'Sleeper Service' plays a major role. The Sleeper Service is unbelievably huge, being some 60 miles from bow to stern. This image shows my 3D fractal imagining of one of its interior engine spaces, which it has vastly expanded in order to reach its destination in time....

The new 'Mandalex' formula for MB3D has tremendous potential for creating 'Tech' type images, but it's so noisy!
Had to drop the RSM to 0.01 for this, so it took ages to render! Something must be done!!

A larger version of this piece can be viewed, and prints ordered at: markjaybeefractal.com/gsv-slee…

Fucking Brilliant. If they ever make an Ian M.Banks Culture novel movie you should be on the creative team in my opinion. I'm a fucking nobody though, so I wouldn't let that go to your head. Thank you!

Nicely done! Super low RSM+hig res= way to much time for me. Hats off to your having the patience man!

Thanks very much Hal! I tend to just leave them to render overnight,
it's quite nice to wake and find a clean, finished image waiting in the morning!

Thanks Tony! Yep, 'Excession' is definitely a Banks 'must-read' -
I recently finished my THIRD re-read, and it was still brilliant!

A view of the pure one for the curious ones

Rendered with a rsm of 0.1 and aax2 not too noisy in my eyes

"The new 'Mandalex' formula for MB3D has tremendous potential for creating 'Tech' type images, but it's so noisy!"

Don't blame me Mark I can't really fix it ... a discontinue formula is like that
You should try to render 2x image with a "normal" RSM should work

And awe view

Oh, not 'blaming' you at all Luca.  OK, next time I'll try rendering at 8000x4000
and save at 2x for AA. Worth a go as it is an interesting formula. Thanks mate!

Awesome picture Mark Think you 'tamed' the mandalex, don't see noise but 0.01 can be eternal

MarkJayBee In reply to batjorge [2015-02-16 17:36:34 +0000 UTC]

Thanks Jorge! Dunno about 'taming' the beast, but I've got it on a short leash!!
Really wanted some low-level reflections in this, but that's when the noise really showed up!
I just left it to render overnight anyway, so no worries there.
