Description

The Type 6.4 shuttlecraft is a short-range Starfleet auxiliary vessel operating from Starships, Stations, and Starbases of the Federation since the 2370s. It is a complete overhaul of the older Type 6, its improvements including expanded compartment space, enhanced engine efficiency, and energy capacity.

Similar to its predecessors, the Type 6.4 has moderate warp capability fit for interplanetary travel. It is not regularly armed or equipped with a transporter array, but modular systems components in the 6.4 make modifications and the addition of mission-specific equipment much easier.

Intuitive control systems and extensive automation allow the craft to be piloted with relative even by personnel not specifically trained in the operation of vessels of this specific type. Enhanced motion control, feedback systems, and manual interfaces, however, allow experienced pilots to fly complex and rapid maneuvers with the craft. This has been shown to improve the vessel's survivability in combat and emergency situations.
