This week, on "What the Fuck is This, Mr Martin?"; it's...well I GUESS it's foot fetish.
Well no, it's not that either. I just had the idea blink into my head and I was like, "...Yeah, this'd be funny, I suppose". Not much reason outside of that. Not into that sort of stuff myself, but as I mentioned a long-ass time ago, it's certainly the less "why god why" of the stuff you can find on this fucking site. At least here it's about being kind and loving to the extremity and not getting excited at the propsect of someone fucking drowning...
So, as one can guess, a headcanon I have is that Marie is kinda...kinky. I admit that's at-odds with how she's written in Throwing Shade, but at the same time, why else would she go with the plan she did? There are elements of Marie's banter in the first game that's a little eye-turning, plus one line in the second that caused many people to HC her as an armpit sniffer, so whatever. I imagine Marie just lives for the moment, getting her joy from whatever she fancies. And if that's from tickling her counterpart, eh, it's something to do. I imagine War Marie, being corrupted and all, has those urges but far more severe. A mix of shame and War Pearl's intolerance would lead to denial, of course, but Marie can see past that. She's always up for a little guilty fun.

I love how you do these... humorously deconstructive, for lack of a better term, takes on fetishes instead of just making a picture of the characters doing stuff that people find hot. I do something somewhat similar with The Smiler from Coaster Spirits. One personality quirk of Smiler is that he loves tickling girls’ stomachs. It sounds really fetishy, doesn’t it? But it’s not that. He actually does that because as he puts it, “young females tend to wear clothing that draws attention to their bellies. It is an invitation for their laughter to be brought out by my fingers dancing on their midriffs.” He’ll tickle anyone regardless of gender, and on other body parts, but a girl’s tummy is his favorite place to do it.

And of course, tickling isn’t even the core of his character. He’s about making people happy, specifically with a brainwashing process called Marmalization, which strips victims of both their negative emotions and free will, turning them into completely obedient slaves that can only feel joy.

Ah, so you’re familiar with Alton Towers. For some reason, this park gets a lot of fanart, far more than any other park. If you search Alton Towers on DA, you’ll be surprised by how many characters based on the rides you’ll find here. And despite it’s damaged reputation, The Smiler is the single most popular coaster to make fanart of. Coaster Spirits is my own take on “humanized coasters”. Of course, the characters are based on rides from a variety of parks, but AT is important to the story (because the main villain is Wicker Man, the wooden coaster they recently added).

And you know what’s great about The Smiler? Since it’s theme is about brainwashing, why create a character from scratch when you can take a character and marmalize them? As you’ve probably seen, I’ve done it to Meggy.

I mean I do find it a bit weird, especially when serious stuff is taken too lightly. Upotte, an anime about human representations of firearms, that's fine...should really watch that. BUT something like that one where all the countries are bishonen anime bois and something like World War 2 is seen as a childish spat? Nah dude, that's no good. Think I might stick with animals and squids.

It's kind of slipped over the years, but the basis a Warmonger means a loss of identity. Or at least, original identity. Whatever remnants of the original consciousness is wiped from the person and replaced by what is essentially one of the voices in their head. A less stable, more bitter version born from grief. A stranger in a body they're vaguely aware of. That's how you get Traveller, who DOESN'T remember who he used to be because he never was that guy to begin with.
But yes, there is also that influence from the Imprisoned. I love that you mentioned that. Nice to know someone's paying attention.

Y’know, Marmalization actually might make sense in your world, as part of a resistance against the warmongers. What does the transformation rely on? Grief. What does Marmalization do? Make someone mentally incapable of feeling negative emotions, such as grief. Smiling advocates (catch-all term for Smiler’s workers/victims) are essentially blocked from becoming a Warmonger. It’s like an immunization program, but it comes at the cost of freedom from Smiler’s control.

Yes. I imagine it as Smiler marmalizing one inkling and sending them back to the Splatoon multiverse to lead the Ministry of Joy’s operations over there, while Smiler himself stays in the Coaster Spirits universe. Oh, Ministry of Joy is the name of the organization that Smiler runs. Smiling Advocates refers to the people within the MOJ.
Now, here’s something to spice it up even further. Marmalization consists of 5 steps: injection with a serum called Kelmanium, tickling, laughing gas (with a special type known as Giggler), disorientation via flashing lights, and hypnosis. Kelmanium is the most important factor, causing the mental and physical mutations that are buffed and cemented by the other 5 steps. Unfortunately, inkling/octo ink, for whatever reason, is kind of like the metal to Kelmanium’s electricity. Just a few drops of Kelmanium is enough to turn a decently big puddle of ink yellow with the effects of Kelmanium, and a marmalized inko swimming in ink could corrupt an entire Turf War arena. The danger is that if a non-advocate becomes a squid and swims in corrupted ink, and no Advocates are around to take them in, they’ve put a huge amount of Kelmanium in their body without getting fully marmalized. The purpose of Marmalization is to make people constantly happy, obedient to The Smiler, and PACIFISTIC AND KIND. If they just fuse their body fluids with an overdose of this hyperstrong anti-depressant... the result won’t be pretty. Complete muscle spasms. Exaggeratedly wild behavior. Laughing so much that they risk dying from loss of breath. Total disregard for the safety of themselves and others. Hysteritis, a virus created by a chemical reaction between Splatoon ink and Kelmanium and transmitted through contact with infected ink. And is the threat of causing a Hysteritis epidemic going to stop The Smiler from invading the Splatoon multiverse? Well, no one would know about it until it begins spreading, and Smiler honestly wouldn’t be too concerned about it, so no.

HMM YES. This might sound kinda sadistic, but I like the idea of War Pearl and her gang being forced to deal with a greater evil. I feel like a lot of villains (especially intentionally evil and extremely powerful ones like Dharkon or Meggario) would see the War Squids as just a bunch of kids, playing around and pretending to be like the “adults”.
If you want to do some pics/stories about Smiler’s influence on the Splatverse, I can help with that (the villain of such a situation is my character, after all). First lesson: colors. The Smiler color scheme is black/yellow/white (with some grays), and any character aligned with Smiler should have this scheme. Hysteritis-infected and marmalized inkos/octos always have yellow tentacles (with black or white if it’s like the idols’ tentacles).

What else will you need to know, hmm... ah, eyes. Hysteritis victims have yellow irises, while fully marmalized advocates have black and yellow swirls in their iris/pupils. I’ve seen a Callie model that has a white version of the swirl eyes, so you probably should be able to find the right eye textures.
