[Marina's apartment, somewhere in the city. It's somewhat dingy compared to Pearl's mansion, but it makes for a good backup lodging while the mansion has having repairs down...or they fall out like this. Marina flops to the sofa, buries her head in her hands and sighs pitifully]
Marina: Pearlie...why?
Eight: M...Mother? Mother Marina? You home?
[Marina looks up, and sees Agent Eight - the Octoling she saved from the Metro, the one who saved the world by destroying the once-dead Tartar - walking into the room and sitting down on the sofa alongside her adoptive mother]
Marina: Ahh, hello, Agent Eight.
Eight: Mother Marina? I see tear leak from eye? What is wrong?
Marina: Oh, it's nothing, pumpkin. Just...a hard d-day at work...
Eight: But, where Pearl?
Marina: ...[deep sigh] She's gone, for now. We had a bit of a falling out, in the Studio today. Over the FinalFest. Chaos vs Order. She on Chaos, me on Order.
Eight: What happen?
Marina: I thought Pearl would understand after all these years, but...she doesn't. She wants Chaos, just for every day to be different! But...what if I don't want that? What if, in the lawless expanse, I lose contact with those I hold dear to me...like you?
Eight: M-Mother Marina...[pulls her into a small hug]
Marina: [sniff] I don't want to lose you, Eight! You saved the world, you don't deserve to...d-die in some hellhole because Pearl wants to live out her little fantasies! It's like she wants to go back to the days of...the...the Canyon...
Eight: Mother no! No mention of Canyon! N-Never...
Marina: I know...but that's what she wants...even had Octavio on her side! You and her and Cuttlefish, you're the only family I have! The only...THING I have left up here! I don't wanna lose you, any of you! I DON'T. WANNA SEE YOU UNDER OCTAVIO'S SHADES OR COVERED IN TARTAR GOOP-
Eight: Mother!
[Marina snaps out of her tirade, and begins to melt down sobbing. Eight wimpers and brings her into a cooldown hug. They sit there cuddling for a few seconds, beofre Marina calms down]
Marina: ...R-Right, sorry. I just got...a-a little emotional and...oh cod...I don't...[sob] I don't want to do this one. I don't want to lose, bring on the apocalyse. It's why I picked Order! Keep some semblance of structure to this world. Make sure everyone is safe...
???: No matter what it takes.
Eight: ...Was that you?
Marina: No?
???: Ladies...do not adjust your television set. Do not get up. Do not...attack. You fear losing your kind, yes? Well don't worry.
[The figure steps out into the room. It's...Pearl? But not. Her expression is one of malice, her clothes ravaged and cyan...her eyes dark, and a light blue...]
War Pearl: Your savour has arrived. The Oracle of Order. Now settle down. This is gonna get...interesting.

So, time to make something a little more...large-scale. Well by that, I mean a mini arc. Of sorts. This started as a reaction to the Splatfest dialogue for Chaos vs Order, because...uh. HOLY SHIT. Marina got real and dark, REAL fast. I actually think she made a compelling argument for Team Order - should Chaos win, the resultant lunacy could so easily break up communication and she would lose contact with her friends and family...what litle she has. She has, by her own words, Agent 8, Captain Cuttlefish and Pearl - one is old, one is on the other team for now, and Eight is...well, somewhere. She has no friends and family from back in the Canyon, and I am very sure she thinks Chaos winning would result in the city falling into the same sort of disrepair as the Canyon. Sheer shantytown levels. But her major point is the loss of litreally everyone she holds dear on the surface. It's emotional, realistic and a bit of a swerve even for this game. I always got the impression Marina was a nervous wreck, one nasty wisecrack from Pearl away from having a mental breakdown. And now that seems less like a headcanon and more...reality. Marina, babe...do you need a hug?
And yet...I picked Team Chaos. Because I know exactly what will happen if Marina wins. Full on dystopia. Curfews. Brainwashing. Culture police. Dragging people down to "Rehabiliation Camps". I mean for fuck's sake, the glasses for Team Order are called Hivemind Antenna! They're Hypnoshades by another name, no better than Octavio. The only difference for most Inklings depending on who wins is what mind-warping shades get bolted to your face. Lawless chaos is bad, obviously, but dystopnian tyranny is worse. I chose the lesser of two evils...but really, I and a few others are on the Cleanup Crew. We're to comb the wreckage when all this blows over, looking for survivors. But that has...yet to be decided, hasn't it?
In the end, I wanted to make an image of Marina, home from work, getting a well-deserved hug from Agent Eight. That was :iconSha-Haley:'s idea, by the by. And then me being me, I went, "I NEED WARMONGERS IN THIS". And then it kind of spiralled from there. I am not SMG4, this isn't exactly going to spiral into a major event. Partly because I need to wait and see how the Finalfest plays out in reality. Who wins and who dies. But it's gonna spiral up to a point, and then we'll just have to buckle down and see. Consider it a...prologue, to the Fest.
So this arc will have a submission once every two days, with something else in-between. The reason for this is...because I have a lot of GMOD images in st.ash and I need to get them put up so they stop clogging it up. So one a day for a while, sounds good? Well tough, I'mma do it anyway. I'm often loathe to bulk upload, as it spreads the potential viewerbase even thinner than usual - but I do need to unclog what I've got. And there's a whooooole lot.

I gotta say, on top of being a really good Gmodder, you've really got a knack for writing!
Yeah, this whole final fest thing is really interesting to say the least. I've yet to choose a side though. The main reason is because I don't know if we're choosing the next game's villains (let's assume there'll be a Splatoon 3). See, in the first game, Callie lost the final Splatfest and thus paved the way for her to become Splatoon 2's brainwashed antagonist.
But...what if it's the other way around this time? What if the winner of the Final Fest becomes the villain?
If this is the case, I'm going with Order. Why? Well for several reasons, but mainly because I don't want Callie to be a villain for a second game in a row. One game was enough in my opinion; I think it's time to see her in a major heroic role now, especially since I think of her as an underdog, the Luigi of Splatoon.
If she's the heroine of Splatoon 3 no matter what side I choose, then I'm going with Chaos.

I doubt they'd make Callie evil a second time...it's not like they did all that much with her to begin with in 2. She'll probably defect if Chaos wins, when Pearl goes ALL The way in.

I mean, I can't say I doubt Nintendo will do anything because...well...they're Nintendo. They're almost impossible to predict. They play by their own rules.
With that said, I hope you're right. It'd be really cool if she did defect. And speaking of doing much with her in Splatoon 2, I hope in a third game they give her the same treatment they gave Marie for 2. I feel it's only fair. If S2 was Marie's time to shine, then S3 could be Callie's, evening things out. Plus, it'd provide some really fun humor and cool character development if done right.

You are absolutely right, Nintendo is impossible to predict. Smash is a good representation of that. Everyone was so sure the Grinch Leaks were real, that Shadow and Geno were dead certs. And what did Sakurai do? PLANTT

You're right about Smash. Heck, the Switch reveal itself literally came right the fudge out of nowhere!
It was back when it was still called the NX and everyone was on pins and needles waiting for Nintendo to make their move. Then, on the evening of October 19, 2016, Nintendo tweeted without warning, "We're revealing the NX tomorrow at 7:00 in the morning!" Not even 24 hrs notice.

Yep; very Nintendo of them. And yet, in spite of the super short notice, Nintendo dominated the internet that evening and the next day.
I swear, Nintendo is simultaneously the most brilliant and the most backward gaming company out there. I dunno how that's a thing, but Nintendo finds a way and I love them for it, lol.

Mm. The thing about Nintendo is, they do a lot of stuff I dislike. NSO is bad, Modern Paper Mario is bad, their attitude to fan games is awful and they're the only company I can think of that goes beyond customer unfriendly to customer hostile. And yet, compared to the cynical, shameless, soulless, cash-grabbing trash like Activision, EA, Warner Brothers, Konami, 2K...they're the easiest to forgive. At times. It helps they actually, you know, makes games you might want to play instead of casinos you're forced to gamble in.

Same here. I may be a Nintendo fan, but I'm not blind to their shortcomings and really want them to improve those things. And speaking of easiest to forgive, something they have going for them is they actually treat their devs and employees like human beings. Unlike the studios that force their workers into exhaustion, Nintendo will delay a game to keep their workers healthy and happy (it's why Animal Crossing has a 2020 release now). Not to mention that instead of firing/laying off employees, Miyamoto and former president Satoru Iwata (and I think Reggie) took massive pay cuts during tough times.
So to me, that really helps too.
