Description
"Run...run...keep running..." Lilac panted as she sped across the hills. Her feet were aching, blackened by the chemicals and bruised by the inscessant pounding on the ground below her. Her lungs were in overdrive, her heart pumping like a jackhammer, sweat pouring down her face and dark forces already gripping her mind. The moon, that blasted moon, was slowly peeking out from the cloud, it would not be long before the light would shine on Lilac's pail frame, and she would begin to change...

All the while, her head screamed with the voices from the city she had so quickly fled, some terrified and some vengeful;

"My god! What has she done?!"

"She slashed that poor gentleman's chest open, that's what she did!"

"I knew you Shuigang types were nothing but trouble! You're going to ruin my image!"

"But Mayor, she was only trying to-"

"QUIET! From now, I place a bounty of 600'000 gems on Sash Lilac's head, for assault and mutilation of an innocent!"

"That MONSTER!"

"GET HER!"

"Stop it stop it stop it stop it stop it..." Lilac whimpered as she continued to dash through the lands.

"Murderur!

"Demon!"

"I SAID STOP!" Lilac screamed at the top of her lungs, her pained growls echoing across the hills and finally causing her to lose her footing. She tumbled, head over heels, until she landed with a small splat on the grass. She rolled to a stop, clutching her head in agony; the beast inside her wanted out already, but Lilac would not let her. She growled and screamed as she resisted with all her might and, finally, the beast let go and the pain faded. Lilac flopped to the ground again, sobbing to herself, "Please...it wasn't my fault...I don't wanna be a monster..."

"Well, look at that..." came a familar voice. Lilac stopped, her overgrown fins twitching at the sound of that loving voice, and she jerked herself into a cross-legged sitting posistion to see who was there. It was that green wildcat again, her friend...Carol. Only now she looked different, more...violent herself. Gone was the black shirt and green shorts she was known for, now there was a grey trenchcoat over a different, darker shirt and brown full trousers. She wore fingerless gloves, hobnail boots and a bandoleer that streched across her midsection. She was lying on a nearby rock, holding a large blade in her left hand and cleaning it with a rag clenched in her right. She looked down at Lilac with her one remaining eye and chuckled, "Looks like I found you again."

Lilac's mind was blank as she stared at her former friend, her expression just as empty, bar the small fear welling up inside her, "...What are you doing here?"

"What?" Carol chuckled again, placing her knife back somewhere in her trenchoat, "A girl can't say hi to her friends anymore? I just kinda...wanted to find you, is all."

"Why?" Lilac asked, more fearful than before, "Wh-why are you looking for me? I...I..."

"You what? Did this?" Carol sighed, jumping down and kneeling so she and Lilac were staring face to face. Already Lilac was on the verge of crying again as she stared into Carol's face...what remained of it. The remnants of Carol's left ear twitched as she rubbed at...something under her eyepatch and she continued, "Lilac, look...I'm not going to abandon you. Not again."

"No, go away..." Lilac whimpered, trying to crawl backwards away from Carol, "I...you're right, I'm an idiot. A heropants, a moron! I...I hurt you!"

"I hurt you, too," Carol said, "I abandoned you back when Brevon was our enemy. I let you get tortured. You think I'm not still kicking myself for lettin' that happen to you?"

"Carol, please!" Lilac pleaded, "I'm a monster."

"You're not a monster, Lilly."

"I CUT YOUR FACE OFF!"

"Parts of it," Carol corrected, "Lilac-"

"No, no!" Lilac cried out, "Get away from me!"

"LILAC!" Carol screamed, clasping a hand over Lilac's mouth, "Calm down..." her ears drooped, "Please..."

Lilac stared at Carol for a while, unsure of what to do. What did Carol do to get here...what did she want? What was she doing? Lilac decided to try and calm herself; her heightened emotions would only invite the beast faster. She calmed herself, horns drooping a little and her arms going limp.''

"Okay?" Carol asked, to which Lilac nodded, "Okay. Good girl," Carol sighed, sitting down next to Lilac, "Whoo. It's been a crazy few months, hasn't it? Let's just say, I've been pretty busy ever since Serpentine pumped those there chemicals into ya. Call it change of career paths. On the straight and narrow...and not straight back into crime, I promise."

"Well, what then?" Lilac asked, eyeing Carol's gear, "Are you a..."

"Monster Hunter," Carol asnwered, "Or just Hunter, for short. Trained to track down and kill any monsters; werewolves, vampires, breadbaskets, anyone. Anything to try and get close to you again."

"And what?" Lilac asked bitterly, "Try to kill me?"

"No, Lilly," Carol sighed, brushing her thumb across Lilac's tear-stained cheek, "I will do everything possible to cure your...condition. And when I can, I'll be by your side, no matter what. I won't run away again, nor will I ever try to kill you. Not while you're still in control. If you do lose control, if you ever get purged from your own body...I'll make it quick."

"Well that's...comforting," Lilac sighed. She arched closer to Carol, resting her weary body against Carol's own, "Please...tell me everything'll be alright. That all this will go back to normal soon..."

"...Everything will be normal again," Carol sighed, hugging the shivering dragon and stroking her head, "And I will be by your side whenever I can. I won't abandon you to the pain of the outside world...I promise," she accutated this with a small kiss to the dragon's head, "Now, I better get going. The moon's due to come out soon."

"Yeah, you better go. Like, right now!" Lilac panicked, pushing Carol away and watching her tumble to the ground, "GO!"

Carol did as she was told, grabbing her stuff and running across the hills, back to the city that had shunned her friend so much. The shining lights of Shang Mu did little to hide her own misery and anger. At Serpentine, at Brevon, at Mayor Zao, at them all. When Lilac was cured, she would make sure they all paid...if Lilac even lived that long.

Lilac's eyes watered watching her friend run away, but she knew it was for the best. Now she could see the moon finally move from the clouds, basking her in the moonlight. She had no more tears, only a solumn sense of inevitability, "So...this is it...AARRRGH!" She screamed as the changes finally came over her, bringing her to her knees. She could already feel her body shift under the light, becoming bulkier and more feral, and her mind slowlly slipped away form her.

"Please..." she whimpered to the beast inside her as she slowly saw nothing but the dark, "Don't kill anyone this time..."

"Oh DoN't WoRrY, sWeEtHeArT..." the beast replied though her own mouth, "I'lL bE gEnTle..."
