Description
I made this quick tutorial to help along friend over at the Threedy forums but I thought of sharing here too in hopes it might help people. If you use it, maybe post a link to it under your work and I would surely enjoy a link to your image to see how you adapted it to your needs.Related content

When a novice tries to tackle coloring metal, we stare at all of the colors and reflections and textures without having any idea where to start, much less how to achieve the desired look.
Your tutorial helps IMMENSELY with these factors.

I'm glad if that was what I managed. If this "how to" helps people, then it serves it purpose and I'm happy with the result

I don't have experience with mini painting but I guess its possible to be useful with some adaptations.

In the end it is all the same, only the canvas is in 3d. Especially when we do that nmm (painting all metallic tones with non metallic colors like you showed in your tutorial). This is masterclass.

Very cool. You make it look so easy!

MatesLaurentiu In reply to NaarieKermie [2011-07-15 01:14:41 +0000 UTC]
Honestly, its not very hard but that depends a lot on the background and environment. It can become increasingly hard if you use too many light sources or if you decide to go fully reflective.

NaarieKermie In reply to MatesLaurentiu [2011-07-16 09:32:31 +0000 UTC]
Heh, think I'll keep it simple for now. Once the simplicity is mastered then I'll go for the advanced work.
Practice, practice, practice!!

I usually don't do a lot of tutorials, not enough time. This is rather more of an walkthrough than a real tutorial but it has I hope enough visual help to explain the process.

Great tutorial.
You could give more details about the type of light.
π: 0 β©: 1
MatesLaurentiu In reply to lokkenShadow [2011-07-12 21:57:52 +0000 UTC]
Its a straight forward light, nothing too complex. Is there something special you would like to know?
π: 0 β©: 1
lokkenShadow In reply to MatesLaurentiu [2011-07-13 14:04:06 +0000 UTC]
Actually, yes. You used blue and yellow light, sometimes when the background are lightened by something red, the light reflected are red, but normally, in normal cases the light are blue and yellow ?
π: 0 β©: 1
MatesLaurentiu In reply to lokkenShadow [2011-07-14 00:40:37 +0000 UTC]
Yes if you are outside. But usually the environmental light depends of the environment. If you're around trees there might be a green tint to your light or a orange-ish light if there's a desert around. In the end its up to you what kind of light you establish. I went with the most common, blue, yellow and green, with green and blue being environmental light and the sun (yellow light) being the main source.
