Description
I made this quick tutorial to help along friend over at the Threedy forums but I thought of sharing here too in hopes it might help people. If you use it, maybe post a link to it under your work and I would surely enjoy a link to your image to see how you adapted it to your needs.Related content

Looking really nice. You could also reflect a bit of the red background in it, like a red-ish rim light.

LOLimNyarlathotep In reply to MatesLaurentiu [2012-06-01 18:43:57 +0000 UTC]
Thats what I thought of, but I decided not to because the red is not a 'true' background, as if the thing is existing in it.

Yet it resides in it thus it should reflect it. But its your decision, you did great so far. Keep at it!

I'm sure that you'll get better in time, with practice. My tutorial is a technique I developed after years of drawing and painting, its not a sudden inspiration, so don't be let down if you didn't got it the first time. Keep trying!

This tutorial is an amazing! Thankyou!! You should make one for a helmet!
Also, you are from Romania, huh?
๐: 0 โฉ: 1
MatesLaurentiu In reply to Weathered-Raven [2011-11-25 01:22:35 +0000 UTC]
I'm glad you enjoyed it. A tutorial for a helmet would be pretty much the same. As people told me, they pretty much got the blemishes and metallic part but a nice scratch and dents tutorial could be a good addition to this one. So I plan to do one in my spare time.
Yups, from Romania

Weathered-Raven In reply to MatesLaurentiu [2011-11-25 02:18:08 +0000 UTC]
Yeah but lighting is different! Lighting is hard cause of how it works on surfaces like metal. It's tricky!
And thats cool! My parents are from Cluj!

MatesLaurentiu In reply to Weathered-Raven [2011-11-25 13:55:45 +0000 UTC]
Not much harder than this spauldron since this is too a rounded surface. Nonetheless, I'll consider a helmet tutorial. Cluj, you say? How small is the world, isn't it? Beautiful city. Have you visit it?

Weathered-Raven In reply to MatesLaurentiu [2011-11-26 20:37:41 +0000 UTC]
Okay, thats awesome Thankyou! And yes Cluj! I think my mom is from Bucharest though, actually. Yes I've been there! We visit Romania every few years if we can since all of our family is over there.

Love the tutorial (armor drives me crazy) but which program is this for? I'm new to digital work and have Manga Studio 4, downloaded Paint Tool Sai this morning.
๐: 0 โฉ: 1
MatesLaurentiu In reply to Solangetatsu [2011-10-18 05:52:49 +0000 UTC]
This was worked in Photoshop CS5 but the technique can be used similarly in a variety of programs, including some classic mediums. Everything its just layers, even when all your layers are a piece of paper and some colors I say first doodle around your new software for a while, get used to it. Then try my tutorial and try to have fun
