Description Considering the request fromΒ twostepwaltz , I'm posting the set of brushes I use. I want to mention that these are not all my brushes, some of them being Photoshop original brushes, some being other artist's brushes I foundΒ useful to me and some being brushes of my own. You will find some grass and hair brushes, some foliage and background trees I made myself. I hope you'll consider at least some of them useful, incorporate them in your own set of brushes and hopefully share them with other artists around the web.

I use Adobe CS5 so I hope these fit to your tool of choice.

Its actually very easy. Here is a tutorial: [link] but you can simply google "how to make custom brushes in photoshop" or search the same term on youtube and you can get loads of other tutorials. The creation part is very simple, its a bit more complicated to adjust it to whatever you desire from the brush. But you'll get the hang of it in no time. Good luck!

You probably have set the abr files to open by default in Photoshop directly. Instead of clicking on "Download file", right click on it and choose "Save link content as" and save it on desktop.

Mate, abr is the native form of photoshop regarding brushes. After you save it, you need to copy it to Photoshop - Plugins - Brushes then fire up Photoshop, click on the brush icon, go up to where you choose your brush and click the lateral arrow to open up the secondary menu. There you chose "Load Brushes" and select the file with the brushes you just downloaded.

Thank you for uploading these, Mates. Stuck them into Photoshop. Maybe now my art will look as good as yours. You're a good person for admitting these aren't all yours and everyone who uses this set will keep that in mind.

If it wouldn't be too much trouble, could you post examples of things you use these brushes for? (Obviously not for the hair and leafy/foliage ones.) I'm always having difficulty making my art look believable.

Sure thing Silvertwinn, I'll make some examples of use of the brushes. You can see a couple of these examples in my blemish and armor tutorial, where I used the chalk brush and the cloud brush to shade and add details to the armor/helmet.
Of course I cannot take credit for work thats not mine. I wish I could name those who helped me build my collection but it was done over the years, some brushes I deleted since I never used, some where added and honestly I never kept count. After a while, making custom brushes became fun for me and started experimenting myself - thing I encourage everybody to try.

Yeah, I've been using some to test them out and they've been very helpful. ^^ Things just collect over the years. At least you still credit them partially.

Thank you for responding!

I've done some examples and just posted them out. Let me know if you find them explanatory enough.

Now how do I integrate them in my photoshop?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MatesLaurentiu In reply to TheSangson [2012-02-14 22:19:47 +0000 UTC]

Sorry for the late reply. You copy the abr file to the installed photoshop folder - presets - brushes. Then you need to go in photoshop, under brushes and add them or replace your own brushes with them.

Artists with your skills that take the time to even read, let alone ANSWER their comments are QUITE rare..

I don't consider myself to be special in any way and I value common sens in myself and others. You and all the other people watching, commenting, faving and visiting my gallery take time to do that so I cannot but return the favor.

Which MAKES you special...
Hope youΒ΄ll still be able to act like this once you get the attention (here on dA) you deserve..
Wanna say that I also understand the guys with about 1000 pageviews PER DAY that donΒ΄t respond to comments-although itΒ΄s a sad thing.
Anyway itΒ΄s cool youΒ΄re here for us.
